Ab initio calculations on (OH)4 defects in α-quartz

TL;DR: In this article, a new optimized oxygen pseudo-potential has been used to study the structures and relative energies of α-quartz, a partly (OH)4 substituted version of the αquartz structure, and interstitial water molecules in α -quartz.
Journal ArticleDOI

A computational study into the origin of SiC polytypes

TL;DR: The results of a lengthy computational study into the origin of SiC polytypes are summarized in this article, where the 6H structure is found to be the stable phase at high temperature in agreement with experiment and 4H is almost certainly the equilibrium phase at lower temperature, with 15R being stable over a surprisingly wide range in between.
Journal ArticleDOI

The nature of interplanar interactions in SiC polytypes

TL;DR: In this article, the stability of SiC polytypes has been discussed in terms of successive, pairwise, interplanar interactions Jn between Ising-like pseudo-spins.
Journal ArticleDOI

Simulation studies of at high pressure

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the rigid unit mode model to calculate the negative thermal expansion of the tetrahedra and octahedra in the presence of low frequency phonon modes.
