Studies on the formation of [5]metacyclophane

TL;DR: In this paper, the base induced elimination of HCl from the dichloro[5.3.1]propellane 3a gives a mixture of [5]metacyclophane (1 ) and tetrahydrocyclopentacyclooctenes (2 ), while the stereoisomeric 3b affords 1 quantitatively.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reactivity of 8,11-dihalo[5]metacyclophanes

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the chemical behavior of substituted metacyclophanes and found that the cyclophanes showed two remarkable trends: (1) for typical aromatic reactions (acid-catalyzed or photochemical rearrangement, reductions, Diels-Alder reactions), a strong rate enhancement was observed; (2) toward organolithium reagents, abnormal reaction pathways are followed, such as nucleophilic substitution, SET, and other radical processes.
Journal ArticleDOI

7,8-dimethoxycarbonyl-10,11-dimethyl[5]paracyclophane

TL;DR: In this article, the title compound was obtained in 13% yield by UV irradiation of the corresponding Dewar benzene, which was considerably more stable than [5]paracyclophane itself.
Journal ArticleDOI

8,11-dichloro[5]metacyclophane

TL;DR: The title compound 1b was prepared by treating the tetrachloroprellane 2 with AgClO4/2,6-lutidine in THF as mentioned in this paper.
