Journal ArticleDOI

Progestin Levels in Corpora Lutea and Progesterone in Ovarian Venous and Jugular Vein Blood Plasma of the Pregnant Bovine

TL;DR: Evaluated luteal function during pregnancy in cows 11 to 284 days after estrus, breeding, or pregnancy and partial correlations between content and concentration of progesterone, 20 β -ol, and total progestin in the CL were 0.87.
Journal ArticleDOI

Progestin Levels in Jugular and Ovarian Venous Blood, Corpora Lutea, and Ovaries of the Nonpregnant Bovine

TL;DR: Progesterone and Δ 4 -pregnene-20 β -ol-3-one (20 β-ol) were chemically assayed in 42 corpora lutea, ovaries, ovarian venous blood plasma, and jugular venous lymphocyte blood plasma samples collected from 31 non-pregnant dairy cows and heifers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of ovariectomy on concentration of progesterone in blood plasma and urinary estrogen excretion rate in the pregnant bovine.

TL;DR: Levels as low as 10ng/ml in some cows were associated with maintenance of pregnancy, though all cows which maintained pregnancy 264 days or longer following ovariectomy from 200 to 237 days had abnormal parturition and retained fetal membranes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Progestin Content of Ovaries and the Effect on Assessment of Luteal Activity in the Bovine

TL;DR: Samples of ovarian venous blood and ovaries collected by laparotomy from 114 animals following estrus and breeding, during pregnancy and post-partum, were assayed for the progestins, progesterone and 20 β -hydroxy-Δ 4 -pregnene-3-one to determine if progestin content of the corpus luteum adequately reflected the progests in both ovaries.
