Trust management in social Internet of Things: A taxonomy, open issues, and challenges

Internet of Things (IoT) creates a world where smart objects and services interacting autonomously. Taking into account the dynamic-heterogeneous characteristic of interconnected devices in IoT, demand for a trust model to guarantee security, authentication, authorization, and confidentiality of connected things, regardless of their functionality, is imperative. However, as far as we know, against the centrality of trust-based recommendation mechanisms in the IoT environment, there is no ambient study for investigating its techniques. In this paper, we present a systematic literature review (SLR) of trust based IoT recommendation techniques so far. Detailed classifications based on extracted parameters as well as investigation existing techniques in three different IoT layers put forth. Moreover, the advantages, disadvantages and open issues of each approach are introduced that can expand more frontier in obtaining accurate IoT recommendation in the future.

Trust-based recommendation systems in Internet of Things: a systematic literature review

Internet of Things (IoT) has been developed as one of the most significant technology in the future of the Internet, in which the physical objects are transformed into smart objects that can be handled and monitored via the Internet. The trust management takes a significant role in the IoT for enabling trustworthy data collection, context-awareness, and enhanced user privacy. Despite the critical significance of trust management techniques in the IoT, there is not any organized and comprehensive study in this field. Therefore, the aim of this article is to review the available methods in this field in a systematic way. In this regard, the selected techniques are categorized into four main classes, including recommendation-based, prediction-based, policy-based, and reputation-based. Then they are discussed and also compared based on some trust metrics, such as accuracy, adaptability, availability, heterogeneity, integrity, privacy, reliability, and scalability. Furthermore, some hints and challenges for further studies are outlined.

Social Internet of Things is a new paradigm where Internet of Things merges with Social Networks, allowing people and devices to interact, facilitating information sharing and enabling a variety of at-tractive applications. However, face to this new paradigm, users remain suspicious and careful. They fear disclosure of their data and violation of their privacy. Without trustworthy technologies to ensure user’s safe communications and trustworthy interactions, the SIoT will not reach enough popularity to be considered as a well-established technology. Accordingly, trust management becomes a major challenge to ensure reliable data analysis, qualified services and enhanced security. It helps people exceed their fears and promotes their acceptance and consumption on IoT services. However, current research still lacks a comprehensive study on trust management in SIoT. In this paper, we expose basic concepts, properties and models proposed for the trust management in SIOT environments. Furthermore, we discuss unsolved issues and future research trends.
