Fear-of-missing-out (FOMO) refers to feelings of anxiety that arise from the realization that you may be missing out on rewarding experiences that others are having. FOMO can be identified as an intra-personal trait that drives people to stay up to date of what other people are doing, among others on social media platforms. Drawing from the findings of a large-scale survey study among 2663 Flemish teenagers, this study explores the relationships between FOMO, social media use, problematic social media use (PSMU) and phubbing behavior. In line with our expectations, FOMO was a positive predictor of both how frequently teenagers use several social media platforms and of how many platforms they actively use. FOMO was a stronger predictor of the use of social media platforms that are more private (e.g., Facebook, Snapchat) than platforms that are more public in nature (e.g., Twitter, Youtube). FOMO predicted phubbing behavior both directly and indirectly via its relationship with PSMU. These findings support extant research that points towards FOMO as a factor explaining teenagers’ social media use.

Background Many college students register each semester for courses, leading to productive careers and fulfilled lives. During this time, the students have to manage many stressors stemming from academic, personal, and, sometimes, work lives. Students, who lack appropriate stress management skills, may find it difficult to balance these responsibilities. Objectives This study examined stress, coping mechanisms, and gender differences in undergraduate students towards the end of the semester. Design and method University students (n = 448) enrolled in three different undergraduate exercise science courses were assessed. Two instruments, the Perceived Stress Scale and Brief Cope, were administered during the twelfth week of the semester, four weeks prior to final exams. T-tests were used to detect gender differences for the stress levels and coping strategies. Results Overall, females indicated higher levels of stress than their male counterparts. Gender differences were evident in both coping dimensions and individual coping strategies used. Females were found to utilize the emotion-focused coping dimension and endorsed the use of four coping strategies more often than males. These included self-distraction, emotional support, instrumental support, and venting. Conclusions This research adds to the existing literature by illuminating the level of perceived stress and different coping strategies used by undergraduate female and male students. In turn, students may need educational interventions to develop effective and healthy coping strategies to last a lifetime. Faculty and other university officials may want to highlight and understand these various factors to protect the students' wellbeing in their classes.

Academic procrastination is fairly and commonly found among college students. The lack of understanding in making the best use of computer technology may lead to anxiety in terms of operating computer hence cause postponement in completing course assignments related to computer operation. On the other hand, failure in achieving certain academic targets as expected by parents and/or the students themselves also makes students less focused and leads to tendency of postponing many completions of course assignments. The aim of this research is to investigate contribution of anxiety in operating computer and academic stress toward procrastination on students. As much as 65 students majoring in psychology became participants in this study. The results showed that anxiety in operating computer and academic stress play significant role in influencing academic procrastination among social sciences students. In terms of academic procrastination tendencies, anxiety in operating computer and academic stress, male students have higher percentage than female students.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memeriksa apakah neurotisisme, kelebihan informasi, invasion of life, dan kecemasan memengaruhi social media fatigue pada mahasiswa yang belajar di rumah karena pandemi COVID-19. Partisipan penelitian ini berjumlah 639 orang mahasiswa dari kawasan Jabodetabek dan beberapa kota lain yang aktif menggunakan media sosial sebagai sarana belajar di rumah dan juga mencari dan menerima berbagai informasi. Teknik analisis utama yang digunakan adalah regresi hierarkis. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa secara bertahap masing-masing variabel seperti neurotisisme, kelebihan informasi, invasion of life dan kecemasan memiliki pengaruh terhadap terjadinya social media fatigue pada mahasiswa. Namun demikian pada tahap terakhir ketika kecemasan dipertimbangkan dalam perhitungan maka neurotisisme menjadi tidak berpengaruh. Hasil penelitian ini juga menunjukkan besarnya pengaruh kelebihan informasi terhadap social media fatigue dan lebih rentannya kelompok mahasiswa pria untuk mengalami social media fatigue saat belajar di rumah selama pandemi COVID-19.
