In the current research, the free vibrational behavior of the FG nano-beams integrated in the hygro-thermal environment and reposed on the elastic foundation is investigated using a novel integral Timoshenko beam theory (ITBT). The current model has only three variables unknown and requires the introduction of the shear correction factor because her uniformed variation of the shear stress through the thickness. The effective properties of the nano-beam vary according to power-law and symmetric sigmoid distributions. Three models of the hygro-thermal loading are employed. The effect of the small scale effect is considered by using the nonlocal theory of Eringen. The equations of motion of the present model are determined and resolved via Hamilton principle and Navier method, respectively. Several numerical results are presented thereafter to illustrate the accuracy and efficiency of the actual integral Timoshenko beam theory. The effects of the various parameters influencing the vibrational responses of the P-FG and SS-FG nano-beam are also examined and discussed in detail.

Investigation on hygro-thermal vibration of P-FG and symmetric S-FG nanobeam using integral Timoshenko beam theory

Based on the first order shear deformation plate theory (FSDT) in the present studie, static and dynamic behavior of carbon nanotube-reinforced composite sandwich plates has been analysed. Two types of sandwich plates, namely, the sandwich with face sheet reinforced and homogeneous core and the sandwich with homogeneous face sheet and reinforced core are considered. The face sheet or core plates are reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes with two types of distributions of uniaxially aligned reinforcement material which uniformly (UD-CNT) and functionally graded (FG-CNT). The analytical equations are derived and the exact solutions for bending and vibration analyses of such type’s plates are obtained. The mathematical models provided and the present solutions are numerically validated by comparison with some available results in the literature. Inﬂuence of Various parameters of reinforced sandwich plates such as aspect ratios, volume fraction, types of reinforcement and plate thickness on the bending and vibration analyses of carbon nanotube-reinforced composite sandwich plates are studied and discussed. The findings suggest that the (FG-CNT) face sheet reinforced sandwich plate has a high resistance against deflections compared to other types of reinforcement. It is also revealed that the reduction in the dimensionless natural frequency is most pronounced in core reinforced sandwich plate.

Static and Dynamic Behavior of Nanotubes-Reinforced Sandwich Plates Using (FSDT)

Magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) materials have been receiving a special attention from the research community owing to their specialized performance and coupled behavior under thermal, electric, magnetic and mechanical loads. The possibility of prospective energy conversion means, have additionally been added to the cause of researching about these materials. Therefore, the review presented here may be considered as a topical discussion on MEE materials and structures. Through this paper, all critical concepts revolving around MEE materials are discussed in separate sections ranging from the very definition of MEE materials, their material phenomenon, types and properties, to certain fundamental theories and micromechanical models, structural analyses of MEE structures and their nano-sized counterparts, effects of various external and internal parameters and prospective applications of these materials. The present study is in no ways exhaustive to the methods and results observed, but it may be considered as a guide to researchers and scholars about the behavior of MEE materials, wherein critical observations and analyses’ techniques are discussed.

Computational Analysis of Smart Magneto-Electro-Elastic Materials and Structures: Review and Classification

Stress-driven nonlocal elasticity for the instability analysis of fluid-conveying C-BN hybrid-nanotube in a magneto-thermal environment

Static stability of beams subjected to nonuniform axial compressive and shear loads is essential in many industrial applications, such as aircraft, automotive, mechanical, civil and naval. Thus, this article tends to investigate and optimize critical buckling loads of thin/thick sandwich functionally graded (FG) beam with porous core, for the first time. The proposed model is developed to consider a sandwich beam with three layers, which has top and bottom FG layers reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and core porous layer with various porosity distributions. The variable in-plane compressive load is described by different distributed functions. Parabolic higher-order shear deformation theory of Reddy is adopted to describe kinematic displacement field and consider both thin and thick structures. The equilibrium governing variable-coefficient differential equations are obtained in detail by generalized variational principle. Equilibrium equations are solved numerically by differential quadrature method to get critical buckling loads. Numerical results are illustrated to examine influences of porosity function, porosity percentage, distribution gradation index, load types and boundary conditions on buckling loads of sandwich FG SWCNTs beam with porous core. Particle swarm optimization algorithm is adopted to get optimal axial load function.

Bending and vibrational behaviors of piezoelectric nonlocal nanobeam including surface elasticity

This paper investigates the postbuckling and free vibration response of geometrically imperfect multilayer nanobeams. The beam is assumed to be subjected to a pre-stress compressive load due to the manufacturing and its ends are kept at a fixed distance in space. The small-size effect is modeled according to the nonlocal elasticity differential model of Eringen within the nonlinear Bernoulli-Euler beam theory. The constitutive equations relating the stress resultants to the cross-section stiffness constants for a nonlocal multilayer beam are developed. The governing nonlinear equation of motion is derived and then manipulated to be given in terms of only the lateral displacement. The static problem is solved for the buckling load and the postbuckling deflection in terms of three parameters: Imperfection amplitude, size, and lamination. A closed-form solution for the buckling load in terms of all of the beam parameters is developed. With the presence of imperfection and size effects, it has been shown that the buckling load can be either less or greater than the Euler buckling load. Moreover, the free vibration in the pre and postbuckling domains are investigated for the first five modes. Numerical results show that the effects of imperfection, the nonlocal parameter, and layup on buckling loads and natural frequencies of the nanobeams are significant.

Postbuckling and Free Vibration of Multilayer Imperfect Nanobeams under a Pre-Stress Load

This work presents a modified continuum model to explore and investigate static and vibration behaviors of perforated piezoelectric NEMS structure. The perforated nanostructure is modeled as a thin perforated nanobeam element with Euler.Bernoulli kinematic assumptions. A size scale effect is considered by included a nonlocal constitutive equation of Eringen in differential form. Modifications of geometrical parameters of perforated nanobeams are presented in simplified forms. To satisfy the Maxwell's equation, the distribution of electric potential for the piezoelectric nanobeam model is assumed to be varied as a combination of a cosine and linear functions. Hamilton's principle is exploited to develop mathematical governing equations. Modified numerical finite model is adopted to solve the equation of motion and equilibrium equation. The proposed model is validated with previous respectable work. Numerical investigations are presented to illustrate effects of the number of perforated holes, perforation size, nonlocal parameter, boundary conditions, and external electric voltage on the electro-mechanical behaviors of piezoelectric nanobeams.

Mechanical behaviors of piezoelectric nonlocal nanobeam with cutouts

This manuscript tends to investigate influences of nanoscale and surface energy on a static bending and free vibration of piezoelectric perforated nanobeam structural element, for the first time. Nonlocal differential elasticity theory of Eringen is manipulated to depict the long–range atoms interactions, by imposing length scale parameter. Surface energy dominated in nanoscale structure, is included in the proposed model by using Gurtin–Murdoch model. The coupling effect between nonlocal elasticity and surface energy is included in the proposed model. Constitutive and governing equations of nonlocal-surface perforated Euler–Bernoulli nanobeam are derived by Hamilton’s principle. The distribution of electric potential for the piezoelectric nanobeam model is assumed to vary as a combination of a cosine and linear variation, which satisfies the Maxwell’s equation. The proposed model is solved numerically by using the finite-element method (FEM). The present model is validated by comparing the obtained results with previously published works. The detailed parametric study is presented to examine effects of the number of holes, perforation size, nonlocal parameter, surface energy, boundary conditions, and external electric voltage on the electro-mechanical behaviors of piezoelectric perforated nanobeams. It is found that the effect of surface stresses becomes more significant as the thickness decreases in the range of nanometers. The effect of number of holes becomes significant in the region 0.2≤ɑ ≤0.8. The current model can be used in design of perforated nano-electro-mechanical systems (PNEMS).
