Statistical Applications in Genetics and Molecular Biology

TL;DR: It is shown how interactions in the test data set for which the training data are not informative can be automatically excluded from the prediction process, giving improved prediction success rates at the expense of restricted coverage of the testData.

A Variance-Components Model for Distance-Matrix Phylogenetic Reconstruction

TL;DR: This work proposes an agglomerative phylogenetic method which focuses on statistical modeling of variance components in distance estimates, and exploits the algebraic structure of the estimation leads to an algorithm with computational complexity comparable to the leading published agglomersative methods.
Journal ArticleDOI

Wavelet Monte Carlo: a principle for sampling from complex distributions

TL;DR: Wavelet Monte Carlo (WMC) as mentioned in this paper is a new method for generating independent samples from complex target distributions based on wavelet decomposition of the difference between the target density and a user-specified initial density, and exploits both wavelet theory and survival analysis.
