A review of interferometry for geometric measurement

We report quantitative phase imaging of human red blood cells (RBCs) using phase-shifting interference microscopy. Five phase-shifted white light interferograms are recorded using colour charge coupled device camera. White light interferograms were decomposed into red, green, and blue colour components. The phase-shifted interferograms of each colour were then processed by phase-shifting analysis and phase maps for red, green, and blue colours were reconstructed. Wavelength dependent refractive index profiles of RBCs were computed from the single set of white light interferogram. The present technique has great potential for non-invasive determination of refractive index variation and morphological features of cells and tissues.

A novel surface recovery algorithm in white light interferometry

White light interferometry is a widely used tool to extend the unambiguous measurement range of a monochromatic interferometer. In this work, we discuss Hilbert transformation analysis of a single white light interferogram acquired with a single-chip color CCD camera for step height measurement which lies beyond the unambiguous range of the monochromatic interferometry. The color interferogram is decomposed and phase maps for red, green, and blue components are calculated independently using Hilbert transformation. This procedure makes the measurement faster, simpler, and cost-effective. The usefulness of the technique is demonstrated on micro-sample.
