We present the discovery of 24 pulsars in 15 Globular Clusters (GCs) using the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). These include the first pulsar discoveries in M2, M10, and M14. Most of the new systems are either confirmed or likely members of binary systems. M53C, NGC6517H and I are the only three pulsars confirmed to be isolated. M14A is a black widow pulsar with an orbital period of 5.5 hours and a minimum companion mass of 0.016 \Ms. M14E is an eclipsing binary pulsar with an orbital period of 20.3 hours. With the other 8 discoveries that have been reported elsewhere, in total 32 GC pulsars have been discovered by FAST so far. In addition, We detected M3A twice. This was enough to determine that it is a black widow pulsar with an orbital period of 3.3 hours and a minimum companion mass of 0.0125 \Ms.

FAST Globular Cluster Pulsar Survey: Twenty-Four Pulsars Discovered in Fifteen Globular Clusters

Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are millisecond-duration flashes of radio waves that are visible at distances of billions of light years1. The nature of their progenitors and their emission mechanism remain open astrophysical questions2. Here we report the detection of the multicomponent FRB 20191221A and the identification of a periodic separation of 216.8(1) ms between its components, with a significance of 6.5σ. The long (roughly 3 s) duration and nine or more components forming the pulse profile make this source an outlier in the FRB population. Such short periodicity provides strong evidence for a neutron-star origin of the event. Moreover, our detection favours emission arising from the neutron-star magnetosphere3,4, as opposed to emission regions located further away from the star, as predicted by some models5. Analysis of the pulse profile of a fast radio burst showed sub-second periodicity, providing evidence for a neutron-star origin of the event and favouring emission arising from the magnetosphere.

Constraints on Pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone dark matter from direct detection experiment and neutron star reheating temperature

High sensitivity radio searches of unassociated $\gamma$-ray sources have proven to be an effective way of finding new pulsars. Using the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) during its commissioning phase, we have carried out a number of targeted deep searches of \textit{Fermi} Large Area Telescope (LAT) $\gamma$-ray sources. On Feb. 27$^{th}$, 2018 we discovered an isolated millisecond pulsar (MSP), PSR J0318+0253, coincident with the unassociated $\gamma$-ray source 3FGL J0318.1+0252. PSR J0318+0253 has a spin period of $5.19$ milliseconds, a dispersion measure (DM) of $26$ pc cm$^{-3}$ corresponding to a DM distance of about $1.3$ kpc, and a period-averaged flux density of $\sim$11 $\pm$ 2 $\mu$Jy at L-band (1.05-1.45 GHz). Among all high energy MSPs, PSR J0318+0253 is the faintest ever detected in radio bands, by a factor of at least $\sim$4 in terms of L-band fluxes. With the aid of the radio ephemeris, an analysis of 9.6 years of \textit{Fermi}-LAT data revealed that PSR J0318+0253 also displays strong $\gamma$-ray pulsations. Follow-up observations carried out by both Arecibo and FAST suggest a likely spectral turn-over around 350 MHz. This is the first result from the collaboration between FAST and the \textit{Fermi}-LAT teams as well as the first confirmed new MSP discovery by FAST, raising hopes for the detection of many more MSPs. Such discoveries will make a significant contribution to our understanding of the neutron star zoo while potentially contributing to the future detection of gravitational waves, via pulsar timing array (PTA) experiments.

FAST discovery of an extremely radio-faint millisecond pulsar from the Fermi-LAT unassociated source 3FGL J0318.1+0252

Radio pulsations from a neutron star within the gamma-ray binary LS I +61° 303

Discovery of pulsars is one of the main goals for large radio telescopes. The Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST), that incorporates an L-band 19-beam receiver with a system temperature of about 20~K, is the most sensitive radio telescope utilized for discovering pulsars. We designed the {\it snapshot} observation mode for a FAST key science project, the Galactic Plane Pulsar Snapshot (GPPS) survey, in which every four nearby pointings can observe {\it a cover} of a sky patch of 0.1575 square degrees through beam-switching of the L-band 19-beam receiver. The integration time for each pointing is 300 seconds so that the GPPS observations for a cover can be made in 21 minutes. The goal of the GPPS survey is to discover pulsars within the Galactic latitude of $\pm10^{\circ}$ from the Galactic plane, and the highest priority is given to the inner Galaxy within $\pm5^{\circ}$. Up to now, the GPPS survey has discovered 201 pulsars, including currently the faintest pulsars which cannot be detected by other telescopes, pulsars with extremely high dispersion measures (DMs) which challenge the currently widely used models for the Galactic electron density distribution, pulsars coincident with supernova remnants, 40 millisecond pulsars, 16 binary pulsars, some nulling and mode-changing pulsars and rotating radio transients (RRATs). The follow-up observations for confirmation of new pulsars have polarization-signals recorded for polarization profiles of the pulsars. Re-detection of previously known pulsars in the survey data also leads to significant improvements in parameters for 64 pulsars.
