Journal ArticleDOI
Weight reduction increases plasma levels of an adipose-derived anti-inflammatory protein, adiponectin.
Wei-Shiung Yang,Wei-Jei Lee,Tohru Funahashi,Sachiyo Tanaka,Yuji Matsuzawa,Chia-Ling Chao,Chi-Ling Chen,Tong-Yuan Tai,Lee-Ming Chuang +8 more
TL;DR: Body weight reduction increased the plasma levels of a protective adipocytokine, adiponectin, despite the reduction of the only tissue of its own synthesis, suggesting that the expression of adip onectin is under feedback inhibition in obesity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gastric Bypass vs Sleeve Gastrectomy for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Wei-Jei Lee,Keong Chong,Kong-Han Ser,Yi-Chih Lee,Shu-Chun Chen,Jung-Chien Chen,Ming-Han Tsai,Lee-Ming Chuang +7 more
TL;DR: Participants randomized to gastric bypass were more likely to achieve remission of type 2 diabetes mellitus and Duodenum exclusion plays a role in T2DM treatment and should be assessed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Plasma adiponectin levels in overweight and obese Asians.
Wei-Shiung Yang,Wei-Jei Lee,Tohru Funahashi,Sachiyo Tanaka,Yuji Matsuzawa,Chia-Ling Chao,Chi-Ling Chen,Tong-Yuan Tai,Lee-Ming Chuang +8 more
TL;DR: In overweight/obese Asians, the plasma adiponectin levels significantly correlated with various indices of MS except hypertension, and the area under curve of plasma glucose in OGTT and high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol among the overweight/OBese subjects and WHR among the morbidly obese subjects were significantly related to the plasma fat levels after adjustment for other variables.
Journal ArticleDOI
Common variation in the fat mass and obesity-associated (FTO) gene confers risk of obesity and modulates BMI in the Chinese population.
Yi-Cheng Chang,Pi-Hua Liu,Wei-Jei Lee,Tien-Jyun Chang,Yi-Der Jiang,Hung-Yuan Li,Shan-Shan Kuo,Kuang-Chin Lee,Lee-Ming Chuang +8 more
TL;DR: Genetic variation in the FTO gene is strongly associated with obesity and BMI in the Chinese population, but its effect size on BMI is comparable with that in the European population.
Journal ArticleDOI
Predicting success of metabolic surgery: age, body mass index, C-peptide, and duration score
Wei-Jei Lee,Kyung Yul Hur,Muffazal Lakadawala,Kazunori Kasama,Simon Kin Hung Wong,Shu-Chun Chen,Yi-Chih Lee,Kong-Han Ser +7 more
TL;DR: The Diabetes Surgery Score is a simple multidimensional grading system that can predict the success of type 2 diabetes mellitus treatment using bariatric surgery among patients with inadequately controlled T2DM.
