Data-intensive applications, challenges, techniques and technologies: A survey on Big Data

The design and characterization of thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) materials for optoelectronic applications represents an active area of recent research in organoelectronics. Noble metal-free TADF molecules offer unique optical and electronic properties arising from the efficient transition and interconversion between the lowest singlet (S1) and triplet (T1) excited states. Their ability to harvest triplet excitons for fluorescence through facilitated reverse intersystem crossing (T1→S1) could directly impact their properties and performances, which is attractive for a wide variety of low-cost optoelectronic devices. TADF-based organic light-emitting diodes, oxygen, and temperature sensors show significantly upgraded device performances that are comparable to the ones of traditional rare-metal complexes. Here we present an overview of the quick development in TADF mechanisms, materials, and applications. Fundamental principles on design strategies of TADF materials and the common relationship between the molecular structures and optoelectronic properties for diverse research topics and a survey of recent progress in the development of TADF materials, with a particular emphasis on their different types of metal-organic complexes, D-A molecules, and fullerenes, are highlighted. The success in the breakthrough of the theoretical and technical challenges that arise in developing high-performance TADF materials may pave the way to shape the future of organoelectronics.

Tunable Synthesis of Bismuth Ferrites with Various Morphologies

Photodetection over a broad spectral range is crucial for optoelectronic applications such as sensing, imaging, and communication. Herein, a high-performance ultra-broadband photodetector based on PdSe2 with unique pentagonal atomic structure is reported. The photodetector responds from visible to mid-infrared range (up to ≈4.05 µm), and operates stably in ambient and at room temperature. It promises improved applications compared to conventional mid-infrared photodetectors. The highest responsivity and external quantum efficiency achieved are 708 A W-1 and 82 700%, respectively, at the wavelength of 1064 nm. Efficient optical absorption beyond 8 µm is observed, indicating that the photodetection range can extend to longer than 4.05 µm. Owing to the low crystalline symmetry of layered PdSe2 , anisotropic properties of the photodetectors are observed. This emerging material shows potential for future infrared optoelectronics and novel devices in which anisotropic properties are desirable.

High-Performance, Room Temperature, Ultra-Broadband Photodetectors Based on Air-Stable PdSe2.

A series of starburst materials (T1-T3) based on a pyrene core with four oligofluorene arms of different length have been synthesized and characterized. The starburst materials show good film forming ability and sky blue fluorescence. Electroluminescent devices take on a stable blue emission and the device performance increases with an increase in arm length. The single-layered device made of T3 has a maximum brightness of over 2700 cd.m 2 and a maximum current efficiency of 1.75 cd .A -1 , which is among the best in starburst material devices. The morphology of T1-T3 has been studied by atomic force microscopy. The starburst oligofluorenes with different arm lengths show a distinctive texture, which indicates the size dependent morphology of the starburst materials.

Synthesis and Characterization of Pyrene‐Centered Starburst Oligofluorenes

The application of the new nonlinear optimization algorithms to array design is demonstrated by the low-side-lobe pattern synthesis of conformal arrays. By adopting the information of array element realized gain patterns the authors formulate synthesis problems as nonlinearly constrained optimization problems, and propose a direct method to solve them. The technique allows them to find a set of array coefficients that yield a pattern meeting a specified side-lobe level and achieving the maximum directivity, if such a set of array coefficients exists. If the side-lobe specifications cannot be met with the given array, the technique will result in a set of coefficients that yield a pattern meeting the best attainable side-lobe level and having directivity as high as possible. Simplified synthesis problems for an axial dipole array in an infinite, perfectly conducting cylinder are discussed, and numerical results are given. The synthesis technique works for general array patterns. >
