The integration of renewable energy sources (RES) as distributed generation units to the power grid has been accelerated by the rising demand for energy and the growing concern over the environmental effects of conventional sources. At the same time, modern electric vehicles (EV) are demonstrating a promising ability to decrease the consumption of fossil fuels. The issues related to a combination of various renewable energy sources to fulfil the load requirements can be solved by the application of multi-input–output architecture that is properly designed. In order to increase the driving range of EVs, several energy sources, including ultracapacitors and fuel cells, should be connected and operate in combination with a battery storage system. To manage these energy sources with various voltage-current characteristics, the same concept can be applied. The current trends in the field of multiport DC-DC converters are identified and examined in this research. This paper proposes a review and analysis of the most significant aspects of multiport converters, such as types based on various characteristics, their topologies, the benefits and drawbacks, and areas of application. A thorough investigation of multiport converters’ design guidelines and selection process for specific applications is presented. Based on their properties, multiport converters are categorized in this review. In comparison with other available review publications, this paper is more concise and mainly focused on the most general and important aspects of multiport technologies. Based on the provided information, the reader can discern modern trends and directions of the multiport converter development.

Modern MultiPort Converter Technologies: A Systematic Review

ABSTRACT This paper presents a novel non-isolated capacitor-assisted quasi-Z-source (CA-QZS) multiport DC-DC boost converter, which operates as a dual-input single-output high gain boost converter. It consists of a bidirectional port for the smooth operation of the energy storage system, and a unidirectional port for the solar/fuel cell to deliver power to the battery and the load. The availability of common ground between input and output ports, high voltage conversion ratio, and continuous current of the unidirectional port are the main features of this novel design, making it suitable for a wider range of applications. A typical switching strategy is followed to regulate the output voltage as well as control input power from the sources. As a battery-incorporated system, the converter’s performance is determined by its selection between three operating modes. Therefore, the CA-QZS converter offers a viable interface for the management of battery energy storage systems. A comparative study is performed with other multi-port converters to highlight the advantages. It is observed that the voltage conversion ratio of 10, can be achieved at a low duty ratio of 0.3. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed topology, a prototype is developed with a nominal output power rating of 200W and an output voltage of 200 V.

A novel non-isolated high gain multiport DC-DC converter for integrating fuel cell/solar PV and battery energy storage system

In this paper, a new structure of a non-isolated multi-input converter is presented that is capable of generating high voltages to increase the efficiency of the converter, which uses a combination of a coupled inductor and a voltage multiplier cell. By combining these two methods, it is possible to use switches with low voltage stress and therefore low conductivity. This type of structure is suitable for photovoltaic (PV) applications. The proposed converter has two distinct phases for each input, which can be used to properly control the energy received from each source using two separate phases. The performance of the proposed converter depends on the charging or discharging mode of the energy storage system (ESS). To design a high step-up non-isolated multi-input converter, first the structure and performance of the proposed converter are thoroughly investigated. The exact design method is presented for the correct operation of the converter and the simulation results for different modes of the converter operation are shown. Finally, in order to confirm the accuracy of the simulation results of the proposed converter, a laboratory sample of the proposed converter to supply a 400 W–400 V load is implemented and a comparison between the theoretical and practical results is performed.

Analysis, design and implementation of a high step‐up multi‐port non‐isolated converter with coupled inductor and soft switching for photovoltaic applications

Conventional hybrid vehicles with two energy sources require two separate on-board DC/DC converters to connect the battery and the fuel cell, which have the disadvantages of large size, high cost, high losses and few applicable operating conditions. To address this situation, this paper proposes an optimized on-board integrated DC/DC converter with a non-isolated multi-port scheme that integrates a unidirectional port for the fuel cell and a bidirectional port for the battery and load. This can achieve a combined energy supply and recovery with a single integrated converter, effectively overcoming the above disadvantages. The optimized converter topology is relatively simple, and the magnetic losses of the transformer are removed. Furthermore, the switched capacitor is introduced as a voltage doubling unit to achieve high-gain output, so the fuel cell and battery voltage demand levels are reduced under the same load conditions. In addition, it has superior performance in system energy management for hybrid vehicles, which can distribute power and switch operating states by controlling the on/off of switching devices to make it suitable for five driving conditions. This paper discusses in detail the operating principles of the converter and analyzes its steady-state performance under five operating modes, derives its dynamic model, and proposes a proportional-integral control scheme. Finally, the simulation model of the topology is built by Matlab/Simulink software to verify the converter operation in each driving state, and the simulation experimental results verify the applicability of the proposed integrated DC/DC converter topology.

It provides a rich exhibition agile management process model, realizes the XML description of the workflow model, and provides a good foundation for the interaction be-tween projects and online transmission. It provides a guarantee for the realization of cross organizational exhibition project business management and lays a solid foundation for the further implementation of process automation.
