One-dimensional rod-shaped Ag2Mo2O7/BiOI n-n junctions for efficient photodegradation of tetracycline and rhodamine B under visible light

Increasing flux of toxic pollutants and harmful microbes ejected by the industrial effluents into water resources have been frightening the natural ecosystem over the years. Ergo, the present work aims to decompose Rhodamine B (RhB), Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ) and Bacillus cereus ( B. cereus ) using a novel delaminated Ti 3 C 2 MXene/NiFe 2 O 4 /V 2 O 5 (D-M/NFO/VO) ternary composite. The construction of pristine materials and composites were testified by crystallography studies, while the morphological characteristics were ascertained by microscopy analyses. In comparison with V 2 O 5 and NiFe 2 O 4 /V 2 O 5 , 0.5 wt% D-M/NFO/VO exhibited improved photoactivity, which decomposed 88.7% RhB, 72.8% S. aureus and 85.1% B. cereus after 240 min. As an outstanding co-catalyst, Ti 3 C 2 MXene can efficiently capture electron and prevented the charge carrier recombination in the composite. Meanwhile, the photocatalytic mechanism of the composite was tested via radical trapping analyses and electron spin resonance spectra, which verified that the hydroxyl and superoxide anion radicals served as the pivotal roles for photodegradation of RhB dye. The real-world viability of D-M/NFO/VO photocatalytic system was also examined using the real printed ink wastewater-containing RhB. The phytotoxic effects of real printed ink wastewater-containing RhB toward the germination seeds of Vigna radiata and Vigna unguiculata were significantly decreased after D-M/NFO/VO photocatalysis. This work puts forward for the use of visible light-assisted catalysts toward ameliorating and eradicating the existing multifarious environmental damages. • A novel delaminated Ti3C2/NiFe2O4/V2O5 composite was prepared. • Ti3C2 loading was optimized to boost RhB degradation and bacteria disinfection. • Ti3C2 cocatalyst-stimulated interface electron separation for photocatalysis. • Real effluent treatment and phototoxicity test supported the viability of composite. 

Construction of delaminated Ti3C2 MXene/NiFe2O4/V2O5 ternary composites for expeditious pollutant degradation and bactericidal property

In this study, photocorrosion of ZnO is inhibited by doping Ni in the ZnO nanostructure and electron–hole recombination was solved by forming a heterostructure with S-g-C3N4. Ni is doped into ZnO NPs from 0 to 10% (w/w). Among the Ni-decorated ZnO NPs, 4% Ni-doped ZnO NPs (4NZO) showed the best performance. So, 4% Ni–ZnO was used to form heterostructure NCs with S-g-C3N4. NZO NPs were formed by the wet co-precipitation route by varying the weight percentage of Ni (0–10% w/w). Methylene blue (MB) was used as a model dye for photocatalytic studies. For the preparation of the 4NZO-x-SCN nanocomposite, 4NZO NPs were formed in situ in the presence of various concentrations of S-g-C3N4 (10–50% (w/w)) by using the coprecipitation route. The electron spin resonance (ESR) and radical scavenger studies showed that O2− and OH free radicals were the main reactive species that were responsible for MB photodegradation.
