Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic control of yeast mannan structure. Isolation and characterization of mannan mutants.

TL;DR: It is concluded that all of the mutations involve structural genes for the various mannosyltransferases that are required for mannan synthesis and not regulatory genes that control expression of a particular mannan chemotype.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic control of yeast mannan structure. Complementation studies and properties of mannan mutants.

TL;DR: Four Saccharomyces cerevisiae mannan mutants have been analyzed to assess the effect of the mutations on the properties of the cells and to determine the complementation patterns, finding that the mnn1 mutants of X2180 make mannan of the 4484-24D chemotype, which indicates that the mannosylphosphate transferase gene is present in the X2 180 strain but is not expressed on the cell surface.
Journal ArticleDOI

Structure and Immunochemistry of the Cell Wall Mannans from Saccharomyces chevalieri, Saccharomyces italicus, Saccharomyces diastaticus, and Saccharomyces carlsbergensis

TL;DR: The mannotetraose and mannopentaose acetolysis fragments gave complete inhibition of the precipitin reactions, which indicated that, in these systems as in the S. cerevisiae system, the terminal alpha(1 --> 3)-linked mannose unit was the principal immunochemical determinant on the cell surface.
