Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of prairie fragmentation on the nest success of breeding birds in the midcontinental United States

TL;DR: Differences in nest-predation rates between large fragments and small fragments suggest that fragmentation of prairie habitats may be contributing to regional declines of grass- land birds and may require protection and restoration of large prairie areas.
Journal ArticleDOI

Remaining large grasslands may not be sufficient to prevent grassland bird declines

TL;DR: This paper assessed the regional population status of three grassland birds that are considered the core of the avian community in this region (Dickcissel, Spiza americana ; Grasshopper Sparrow, Ammodramus savannarum ; Eastern Meadowlark, Sturnella magna ).
Journal ArticleDOI

Demographic Sensitivity of Population Change in Northern Bobwhite

TL;DR: Simulation results indicate that management practices that improve seasonal survival rates will have the greatest potential benefit for recovery of declining populations of bobwhites.
Journal ArticleDOI

Grassland Bird Responses to Land Management in the Largest Remaining Tallgrass Prairie

TL;DR: Bird diversity was higher in native prairie hayfields and grazed pastures than CRP fields, which were dominated by Dickcissels.
