Journal ArticleDOI

High-pressure methane and carbon dioxide sorption on coal and shale samples from the Paraná Basin, Brazil

TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental study has been conducted to assess the potential for coalbed methane production and carbon dioxide storage in coals, carbonaceous shales and source rocks in the Parana Basin in Brazil.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sequence stratigraphy of paralic coal-bearing strata: an overview

TL;DR: Sequence stratigraphy has gained entrance to other branches of sedimentary geology and has been applied to coal-bearing strata as mentioned in this paper, where the main concern is about understanding the history of sedimentation and to establish models able to predict facies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Lithotype (maceral) composition and variation as correlated with paleo-wetland environments, Gates Formation, northeastern British Columbia, Canada

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors collected from mid-Albian Gates Formation coal seams in northeastern British Columbia, were analysed in order to gain a better understanding of coal facies variation.
Journal ArticleDOI

The relationship between coal petrography and depositional environments from selected coal basins in Canada

TL;DR: A review of coal-bearing sequences and the petrographic character of contained seams from selected intermontane and foreland basin settings can be found in this article, where the authors show that the peat precursors of the No. 3 seam of the inner mire zone accumulated from a groundwater-influenced (rheotrophic to mesotrophic) forest mire (swamp, fen).
Journal ArticleDOI

Simple procedure for an estimation of the coal rank using micro-Raman spectroscopy

TL;DR: In this article, an alternative way for an estimation of coal rank, based on micro-Raman spectroscopy, is presented, where the spectral region between 850 cm − 1 and 1840cm − 1 of the Raman spectra was fitted with two Lorentzian functions and a linear inclined baseline.
