Mechanical properties, microstructure and drying shrinkage of hybrid fly ash-basalt fiber geopolymer paste

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated the mechanical properties, microstructure and drying shrinkage of hybrid fly ash-basalt fiber geopolymer paste and showed that the replacement of fly ash with basalt fibers in geopolymers resulted in increased setting times and strength and reduced drying shrinkages of paste.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of entrained air voids in cement paste with scattered ultrasound

TL;DR: In this article, the average size and volume fraction of entrained air voids in hardened cement paste was determined using a combination of an ultrasonic scattering model and an inversion algorithm.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of Multi-scale Porosity in Cement Paste by Advanced Ultrasonic Techniques

TL;DR: In this paper, the effectiveness of advanced ultrasonic techniques to quantitatively characterize the capillary porosity and entrained air content in hardened cement paste is examined, and an inversion procedure based on a theoretical attenuation model is used to predict the average size and volume fraction of air voids in each specimen, producing results in good agreement with results obtained by standard petrographic methods and by gravimetric analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI

New composite beams having cold-formed steel joists and concrete slab

TL;DR: In this article, a new composite beam and floor system was developed to achieve a higher strength and ductility, as well as to yield a more economical design purpose, which consists of three elements: reinforced concrete slab on corrugated cold-formed metal deck, back to back coldformed steel joists, and continuous coldformed furring shear connector.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reliability assessment of thick high strength pipelines with corrosion defects

TL;DR: In this article, the reliability of high-strength pipelines subjected to internal pressure by first-order reliability algorithms and Monte Carlo simulation methods is assessed and the uncertainty associated with model uncertainty factors is addressed and the best fitting distribution is identified.
