Journal ArticleDOI
Optimal operational factors for nitrite accumulation in batch reactors.
TL;DR: The environmental factors that affected the accumulation of nitrite in nitrifying reactors were investigated using a mixed culture using a batch reactor with 50 mg-N/l of ammonia and as much as 77% of the removed ammonia accumulated in nitrite.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modeling kinetics of ammonium oxidation and nitrite oxidation under simultaneous inhibition by free ammonia and free nitrous acid
Seongjun Park,Wookeun Bae +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, an uncompetitive model fit the experimental data well when the reactions were under FA inhibition, whereas a noncompetitive model fit well under FNA inhibition, and a kinetic model for simultaneous inhibition by free ammonia (FA) and free nitrous acid (FNA) was derived.
Journal ArticleDOI
Autotrophic denitrification of nitrate and nitrite using thiosulfate as an electron donor.
TL;DR: Both nitrate and nitrite were removed by autotrophic denitrification using thiosulfate as an electron donor at concentrations up to 800 mg-N/L, and biomass yield for denitration was relatively higher than that of denitritation, showing less sludge production and resulting in lower sludge handling costs.
Journal ArticleDOI
A structured model of dual-limitation kinetics.
Wookeun Bae,Bruce E. Rittmann +1 more
TL;DR: Determination of the kinetic parameters for the dual‐limitation model verifies that qmd varies and demonstrates that the NAD/NADH ratio affects qmd in a positive direction; thus, an increase of the ratio increases the rate of electron‐donor utilization.
Journal ArticleDOI
Aminated polyethersulfone-silver nanoparticles (AgNPs-APES) composite membranes with controlled silver ion release for antibacterial and water treatment applications
M. Salman Haider,M. Salman Haider,Godlisten N. Shao,Godlisten N. Shao,S.M. Imran,Sung Soo Park,Nadir Abbas,M. Suleman Tahir,Manwar Hussain,Wookeun Bae,Hee Taik Kim +10 more
TL;DR: A systematic and novel approach to synthesize water treatment membranes with controlled and improved silver (Ag(+)) release to enhance the lifetime of the membranes is provided.
