Journal ArticleDOI
Leptin is an effective treatment for hypothalamic amenorrhea
Sharon H. Chou,John P. Chamberland,Xiaowen Liu,Giuseppe Matarese,Chuanyun Gao,Rianna Stefanakis,Mary Brinkoetter,Huizhi Gong,Kalliopi M. Arampatzi,Christos S. Mantzoros +9 more
TL;DR: A randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial of human recombinant leptin (metreleptin) in replacement doses in women with HA resulted in recovery of menstruation and corrected the abnormalities in the gonadal, thyroid, growth hormone, and adrenal axes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Efficacy of metreleptin in obese patients with type 2 diabetes: Cellular and molecular pathways underlying leptin tolerance
Hyun Seuk Moon,Giuseppe Matarese,Aoife M. Brennan,John P. Chamberland,Xiaowen Liu,Christina G. Fiorenza,Geetha H. Mylvaganam,Luisa Abanni,Fortunata Carbone,Catherine J. Williams,Alex M. De Paoli,Benjamin E. Schneider,Christos S. Mantzoros +12 more
TL;DR: In obese patients with diabetes, metreleptin administration did not alter body weight or circulating inflammatory markers but reduced HbA1c marginally, and it was observed for the first time that endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in human primary adipocytes inhibits leptin signaling.
Journal ArticleDOI
Salutary effects of adiponectin on colon cancer: in vivo and in vitro studies in mice
Hyun Seuk Moon,Xiaowen Liu,Jutta M. Nagel,John P. Chamberland,Kalliope N. Diakopoulos,Mary Brinkoetter,Maria Hatziapostolou,Yan Wu,Simon C. Robson,Dimitrios Iliopoulos,Christos S. Mantzoros,Christos S. Mantzoros +11 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided for an important role of adiponectin in colon cancer and mechanistic and pathophysiology studies indicate that adiponECTin or analogues might be useful agents in the management or chemoprevention of colon cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Walnut consumption increases satiation but has no effect on insulin resistance or the metabolic profile over a 4-day period.
TL;DR: Walnut consumption over 4 days increased satiety by day 3, and long‐term studies are needed to confirm the physiologic role of walnuts, the duration of time needed for these effects to occur, and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Circulating adiponectin is inversely associated with risk of thyroid cancer: in vivo and in vitro studies.
Nicholas Mitsiades,Kalliopi Pazaitou-Panayiotou,Konstantinos N. Aronis,Hyun Seuk Moon,John P. Chamberland,Xiaowen Liu,Kalliope N. Diakopoulos,Vasileios C. Kyttaris,Vasiliki Panagiotou,Geetha H. Mylvaganam,Sofia Tseleni-Balafouta,Christos S. Mantzoros,Christos S. Mantzoros +12 more
TL;DR: Recombinant adiponectin did not exert a clinically significant direct effect on cell cycle, proliferation, or apoptosis in thyroid cancer cell lines in vitro, and circulating adip onectin is independently and inversely associated with the risk of thyroid cancer.
