Turbulence and unexpected disruptive events are showing with an increasing frequency and growing impact, which represent major challenges for sustainability of businesses. Therefore, finding how organizations can strive and even improve or gain benefits in disruptive environment scenarios became a relevant research area, for which resilience and antifragility represent two significant approaches. This paper argues that collaboration in business ecosystems is a promising approach to cope with disruptions. A brief overview of existing strategies as potential building blocks for resilience and antifragility is presented. Then, in order to study the strategies that can better apply, a modelling and simulation framework based on multi-agents and system dynamics is introduced, and the main modelling issues are discussed considering the context of Industry 4.0.

A collaborative approach to resilient and antifragile business ecosystems

Problem of decision-making in planning and elimination of consequences of emergency situations is considered. Sources of increasing of the effectiveness of measures oriented to prevention and elimination of consequences of emergency situations are discussed. Importance of decision-making in the process of the prevention, localization and liquidation of consequences of emergency situations is underlined. Problems of determining rational resources and funds to be allocated for prevention and liquidation of emergency situations are discussed. The main goal of a system for protection from emergency situations is defined as reduction or prevention of damage to human health and life, the objects of the economy and the environment arising as a result of accidents, catastrophes and natural disasters. Strategy of effective decision-making in planning and elimination of consequences of emergency situations is proposed and discussed. A system of partial indicators that characterize the prevented damage from emergency situations is proposed. To find the optimal resource allocation corresponded to the predicted disaster, the method of ideal point is used. Some examples are given and discussed.

Strategy of Effective Decision-Making in Planning and Elimination of Consequences of Emergency Situations

Resilience is often a qualitative property that is considered fundamental for communities affected by disasters. The concept, along with its variations, has been explored in several domains, such as warfare, business continuity, ecology, computer security, and infrastructure management. The lessons learned constitute a valuable starting point for building resilient socio-technical systems. In previous work, we have described resilience principles at the systems level by reviewing related studies in several research areas. This paper organizes the principles into a conceptual framework for resilient design, which includes a set of nonfunctional requirements for resilience and an assessment methodology for evaluating architectural work from a resilience standpoint. After having presented this conceptual framework, we discuss its application in our collaboration with the Victorian Fire Services Commissioner. This collaboration has led to the specification of a high-level reference architecture for the information interoperability platform that will support emergency services in Victoria.
