Journal ArticleDOI

The gene responsible for familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia maps to chromosome 3q in four unrelated families.

TL;DR: It is suggested that the causal gene is important for maintenance of extracellular calcium homeostasis by the parathyroid gland and kidney and that identification of the FHH gene will improve understanding of the molecular basis for physiologic and pathologic regulation of calcium.
Journal ArticleDOI

Homozygosity mapping of the gene for alkaptonuria to chromosome 3q2

TL;DR: Analysis of two additional nonconsanguineous families supports linkage of alkaptonuria to a single locus on chromosome 3q2, and homozygosity mapping with polymorphic loci identified a 16 centiMorgan region on chromosome3q2 that contains the alkapt onuria gene.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cloning and functional characterization of extracellular Ca2+-sensing receptors from parathyroid and kidney

TL;DR: The availability of the cDNA clone for the Ca2+o-sensing receptor made it possible to test the hypothesis that mutations in the gene encoding the human homolog of the receptor cause inherited disorders of mineral ion metabolism, and discovered a family in which a form of autosomal dominant hypocalcemia results from an activating mutation in the receptor gene.
