Journal ArticleDOI

Particle pressure in a sheared suspension: a bridge from osmosis to granular dilatancy.

TL;DR: The normal stress exerted by particles in a sheared suspension is measured by analogy with a method used to measure osmotic pressure in solutions, yielding the shear-induced particle pressure Pi, the nonequilibrium continuation of equilibrium osmosis pressure.
Journal ArticleDOI

Particle pressure in sheared Brownian suspensions

TL;DR: In this article, the isotropic contribution of the particle phase to the bulk stress, or the particle pressure, was studied for Brownian hard sphere suspensions in computationally simulated shear flow.
