Pathological inflammation in patients with COVID-19: a key role for monocytes and macrophages.
Miriam Merad,Jerome Martin +1 more
TL;DR: The potentially pathological roles of macrophages during SARS-CoV-2 infection are described and ongoing and prospective therapeutic strategies to modulate macrophage activation in patients with COVID-19 are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Everything you always wanted to know about the cosmological constant problem (but were afraid to ask)
TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the cosmological constant problem at a pedagogical but fully technical level and show that the properly renormalized value of the zero-point energy density today (for a free theory) is in fact far from being 122 orders of magnitude larger than the critical energy density.
Journal ArticleDOI
Single-Cell Analysis of Crohn's Disease Lesions Identifies a Pathogenic Cellular Module Associated with Resistance to Anti-TNF Therapy.
Jerome Martin,Christie Chang,Gilles Boschetti,Ryan C. Ungaro,Mamta Giri,John A. Grout,Kyle Gettler,Ling-Shiang Chuang,Shikha Nayar,Alexander Greenstein,Marla Dubinsky,Laura Walker,Andrew Leader,Jay S. Fine,Charles E. Whitehurst,M. Lamine Mbow,Subra Kugathasan,Lee A. Denson,Jeffrey S. Hyams,Joshua R. Friedman,Prerak T. Desai,Huaibin M. Ko,Ilaria Laface,Guray Akturk,Eric E. Schadt,Hélène Salmon,Sacha Gnjatic,Adeeb Rahman,Miriam Merad,Judy H. Cho,Ephraim Kenigsberg +30 more
TL;DR: Analysis of ligand-receptor interaction pairs identified a distinct network connectivity that likely drives the GIMATS module, which was present in a subset of patients in four independent iCD cohorts and correlated with failure to achieve durable corticosteroid-free remission upon anti-TNF therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Robustness of quintessence
Philippe Brax,Jerome Martin +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the curvature effects and the K\"ahler corrections were considered in the case of an inverse power potential and investigated its robustness to corrections, and it was shown that quintessence is not affected by the one-loop quantum corrections.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum Amyloid A Proteins Induce Pathogenic Th17 Cells and Promote Inflammatory Disease
June-Yong Lee,Jason A. Hall,Lina Kroehling,Lin Wu,Tariq Ahmad Najar,Henry H. Nguyen,Woan-Yu Lin,Stephen T. Yeung,Hernandez Moura Silva,Dayi Li,Ashley M. Hine,P'ng Loke,David Hudesman,Jerome Martin,Ephraim Kenigsberg,Miriam Merad,Kamal M. Khanna,Dan R. Littman,Dan R. Littman +18 more
TL;DR: It is shown that SAA1, SAA2, and SAA3 have distinct systemic and local functions in promoting Th17-mediated inflammatory diseases, suggesting that T cell signaling pathways modulated by the SAAs may be attractive targets for anti-inflammatory therapies.
