This paper presents a novel and simple design approach of multiport power divider with arbitrary power splitting ratio as well as filtering response. The relationship between the external Q -factors ( Q es) and power splitting ratio is theoretically analyzed, and it is found that the power allocation for the multiple outputs is determined by their Q e's ratio. By altering the Q es of the splitting ports, the power ratio can be arbitrarily controlled while the output total Q e is equal to the input Q e. Based on this, the two functions of power division and bandpass response of the proposed filtering divider can be designed independently. Accordingly, two practical three-way filtering power dividers with different division ratios (1:1:1 and 3:1:1) using the same topology based on the dielectric resonator (DR) are constructed for the first time. Both of them can be easily built by properly changing the lengths of feeding probes for the output DR without increasing the circuit size, while the phase difference between the splitting ports mainly depends on the direction of the feeding probes. To verify the proposed design concept, the two filtering power dividers with different division ratios mentioned above are implemented and measured. Comparisons of the measured and simulated results show good accordance and verify the theoretical predications.

Theory and Experiment of Multiport Filtering Power Divider With Arbitrary Division Ratio Based on Dielectric Resonator

A compact filtering power divider composed of two quarter-mode circular cavities based on the substrate integrated waveguide is proposed. Two extra perturbing via-holes added in each side of the quarter-mode circular cavity achieve a selective bandpass filtering response and improve the performance of the upper stopband. The proposed FPD operates at 9.1 GHz with a 3 dB fractional bandwidth of 19.8%. The insertion loss in operating band is <; 1.6 dB and the input return loss is better than 16 dB. The amplitude and phase imbalances between the two outputs are measured better than 0.6 dB and 3.5°, respectively. The measured results exhibit good agreement with the simulated ones.

Quarter-mode circular cavity substrate integrated waveguide filtering power divider with via-holes perturbation

A compact substrate integrated waveguide based power divider with bandpass filtering response using metamaterial structure is presented in this paper. The proposed structure has composed with two complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) separated by an interdigital capacitor and both the CSRR uses total six via to connect top and ground plane. The CSRR is obtained by etching the split ring resonator (SRR) from the rectangular metallic patch. The SRR has composed with combination of a U-type ring and open ended rectangular ring. The use of CSRR permits filtering response and provides compactness. The metamaterial properties of designed structure has been verified by its dispersion diagram. The electrical size of the proposed filtering power divider is 0.07λ g × 0.16λ g , where λ g is the guided wavelength at ZOR frequency (f 0 ), 1.54 GHz. The ZOR frequency mainly depends on the length of interdigital capacitor (L idc ). The frequency of transmission zeros have been achieved at 0.85GHz, 2.28GHz, and 4.9 GHz respectively, which can be controlled by varying the parameters of CSRR. The designed structure gives wide stopband with high selectivity. The selectivity of proposed structure have 116 dB/GHz and 82 dB/GHz at the lower and upper side of the passband with wide stopband region extends up to 3.45f 0 below 20 dB. The proposed structure has designed and simulated by ANSYS high frequency structural simulator HFSS 14.0 using Rogers RT/Duriod 6010 substrate with dielectric constant 10.2 and thickness 1.27 mm. The proposed structure is suitable for global positioning system (GPS) application.

A compact SIW based filtering power divider with improved selectivity using CSRR

This paper proposes a general method to design the power divider (PD) with the arbitrary filtering response. The proposed model allows coupling matrix-based filter synthesis to be adopted in the Wilkinson PD (W-PD) design so that two-order, high-order, single-band, multiband, frequency-fixed, and frequency-tunable responses are all available for the W-PD. Meanwhile, benefiting from the generalized W-PD topology, the general model can be employed to design the PD with arbitrary termination impedances (TIs), arbitrary power division ratios (PDRs), and the highly favorable isolation. To demonstrate the proposed Wilkinson filtering PD (W-FPD), a series of resonator-coupled BPFs with open-end coupling feeding line and their corresponding coupling matrices are considered and applied to the W-FPD design. Accordingly, four frequency-fixed W-FPDs are designed to achieve four fully canonical responses with a full number of transmission zeros (TZs). In addition, two highly selective frequency-agile W-FPDs with the nearly constant absolute bandwidth (ABW) are designed to achieve the very wide frequency tuning range. The excellent simulation and measurement results experimentally validate that the proposed model can be utilized to realize W-FPD with two-order, high-order, single-band, multiband, equal, unequal, equal tunable, and unequal tunable filtering responses.

A Simple and General Method for Filtering Power Divider With Frequency-Fixed and Frequency-Tunable Fully Canonical Filtering-Response Demonstrations

In this paper, a novel wideband filtering power divider with third-order quasi-Elliptic bandpass response is proposed. Its physical mechanism is revealed by the lumped-element equivalent circuit, such as how its transmission poles and zeros are formed. The design of the proposed filtering power divider can be simplified as its even-mode model can be synthesized by conventional filter synthesis technique, and then the initial structure parameters can be analytically determined. Owing to the fact that as many as three resistors are joined, high isolation can be achieved between two output ports. To demonstrate its good performance, an example was designed, fabricated, and measured, whose center frequency is 1.99 GHz and 3-dB fractional bandwidth is 43.7%. Moreover, as great as 34 and 28 dB out-of-band suppression can be achieved in the lower and upper stopbands, respectively. The isolation between two output ports is better than 20 dB for a wide frequency range.

Novel Wideband Microstrip Filtering Power Divider Using Multiple Resistors for Port Isolation

A microstrip filtering power divider (FPD) with good isolation performance and harmonic suppression is presented. By replacing a simple resistor with a novel distributed stepped-impedance resonator network, better isolation and wider stopband are simultaneously attained. A transmission-matrix-based analysis method is then extensively described to determine the circuit geometrical parameters at the synthesis level by facilitating the incorporation of design indexes and structure dimension. A prototype FPD is designed, fabricated and measured. The proposed FPD exhibits a center frequency of 2.2 GHz ( $\text {f}_{0}$ ) with the isolation better than 17dB within the entire passband and a stopband extended to 12 GHz (5.45f0).
