The first controlled device (100) utilizes a first clock signal embedded in digital music signals provided via the cable to derive clocking signals for implementing the display information communications protocol, resulting in an efficient, low cost electronic design.

A dynamic error correction system for a bi-directional digital data transmission system. The transmission system of the present invention includes a transmitter adapted to encode information into a signal. A receiver receives the signal and decodes the information encoded thereon. The signal is transmitted from the transmitter to the receiver via a communications channel. A signal quality/error rate detector is coupled to the receiver and is adapted to detect a signal quality and/or an error rate in the information transmitted from the transmitter. The receiver is adapted to implement at least a first and second error correction process, depending upon the detected signal quality/error rate. The first error correction process is more robust and more capable than the second error correction process. The receiver coordinates the implemented error correction process with the transmitter via a feedback channel. The receiver dynamically selects the first or second error correction process for implementation in response to the detected signal quality/error rate and coordinates the selection with the transmitter such that error correction employed by the receiver and transmitter is tailored to the condition of the communications channel.

Recorded data is read by an image sensor from a recording medium on which the data is two-dimensionally recorded in a mesh pattern, and the read data is stored in an image RAM. The stored data is subjected to data decoding and error correction to reproduce target data. A scanning reference pattern of a mesh pattern recorded on the recording medium serves as a guide when the stored recorded data read by the image sensor is reproduced by scanning in the image RAM. A reproduction apparatus has a capability of coping with a partial destruction of the scanning reference pattern. Error checking codes are added to the recording medium in addition to the target data. These items of data are recorded as an encoded image after being subjected to scrambling processing and randomization processing. The reproduction apparatus can easily cope with an error when the encoded image is reproduced.

The present invention provides for adaptive and multimode decoding, in a data packet-based communication system, to provide improved received signal quality in the presence of burst erasures or random bit errors, with particular suitability for real-time, delay sensitive applications, such as voice over Internet Protocol. ERROR CORRECTION AND DETECTION APPARATUS AND METHOD Abstract A decoder is arranged to operate as a single-bit error correction circuit (ECC) and as a multiple-bit error detection circuit (EDC). The decoder starts and remains in the ECC state as long as no errors are detected in a received data message. When an error is detected or corrected in a received data message, the decoder switches to the EDC state where it remains as long as errors are detected in the received data message. When no errors are detected in the received data message, the decoder switches back to the ECC state. In a generalized multistate decoder, switching occurs from one state to another state, each state having a different error correcting capability, in response to a predetermined number of errors corrected or detected in the received data.
