TL;DR: In this paper, an organically modified silane sol-gel was prepared by the hydrolysis and condensation of N-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl)-4'nitroaniline and trimethoxylsilane in N,N-dimethylacetamide using a non-ionic organic base catalyst.

TL;DR: In this article, an electroluminescent device was fabricated using plasma-polymerized carbon disulfide films, poly(CS2), and tris(8-quinolinolato)aluminum(III) complex, Alq, as the hole transport layer and the emitting layer, respectively.
Abstract: Electroluminescent devices were fabricated using plasma-polymerized carbon disulfide films, poly(CS2), and tris(8-quinolinolato)aluminum(III) complex, Alq, as the hole transport layer and the emitting layer, respectively. A cell structure of glass substrate/indium–tin–oxide/poly(CS2/Alq/Mg/Ag) was employed. Smooth hole injection from the electrode through the poly(CS2) layer and concomitant electroluminescence from the Alq layer were observed. Green emission with a luminance of 250 cd/m2 was achieved at a drive voltage of 14 V.

TL;DR: A new metastable phase of p-nitroaniline has been formed by flash evaporation from a toluene solution that generates extremely strong second-harmonic radiation when illuminated with a near-infrared laser beam.
Abstract: A new metastable phase of p-nitroaniline has been formed by flash evaporation from a toluene solution. This phase generates extremely strong second-harmonic radiation at 532 nm when illuminated with a near-infrared laser beam at 1064 nm. This observation is surprising since the stable crystalline phase exhibits no second harmonic and suggests that the new structure lacks a center of symmetry. The second-harmonic intensity decays over several days for the pure compound but remains unchanged over 3 months for the composite with polystyrene. Such nonlinear-optical materials are important for optoelectronic devices such as electro-optic modulators and switches used in telecommunications.
