Electrospinning: a fascinating fiber fabrication technique.

Electrospinning is a highly versatile method to process solutions or melts, mainly of polymers, into continuous fibers with diameters ranging from a few micrometers to a few nanometers. This technique is applicable to virtually every soluble or fusible polymer. The polymers can be chemically modified and can also be tailored with additives ranging from simple carbon-black particles to complex species such as enzymes, viruses, and bacteria. Electrospinning appears to be straightforward, but is a rather intricate process that depends on a multitude of molecular, process, and technical parameters. The method provides access to entirely new materials, which may have complex chemical structures. Electrospinning is not only a focus of intense academic investigation; the technique is already being applied in many technological areas.

Heat transfer characteristics of nanofluids: a review

Nanofluids are potential heat transfer fluids with enhanced thermophysical properties and heat transfer performance can be applied in many devices for better performances (i.e. energy, heat transfer and other performances). In this paper, a comprehensive literature on the applications and challenges of nanofluids have been compiled and reviewed. Latest up to date literatures on the applications and challenges in terms of PhD and Master thesis, journal articles, conference proceedings, reports and web materials have been reviewed and reported. Recent researches have indicated that substitution of conventional coolants by nanofluids appears promising. Specific application of nanofluids in engine cooling, solar water heating, cooling of electronics, cooling of transformer oil, improving diesel generator efficiency, cooling of heat exchanging devices, improving heat transfer efficiency of chillers, domestic refrigerator-freezers, cooling in machining, in nuclear reactor and defense and space have been reviewed and presented. Authors also critically analyzed some of the applications and identified research gaps for further research. Moreover, challenges and future directions of applications of nanofluids have been reviewed and presented in this paper. Based on results available in the literatures, it has been found nanofluids have a much higher and strongly temperature-dependent thermal conductivity at very low particle concentrations than conventional fluids. This can be considered as one of the key parameters for enhanced performances for many of the applications of nanofluids. Because of its superior thermal performances, latest up to date literatures on this property have been summarized and presented in this paper as well. However, few barriers and challenges that have been identified in this review must be addressed carefully before it can be fully implemented in the industrial applications.

A review on applications and challenges of nanofluids

Suspended nanoparticles in conventional fluids, called nanofluids, have been the subject of intensive study worldwide since pioneering researchers recently discovered the anomalous thermal behavior of these fluids. The enhanced thermal conductivity of these fluids with small-particle concentration was surprising and could not be explained by existing theories. Micrometer-sized particle-fluid suspensions exhibit no such dramatic enhancement. This difference has led to studies of other modes of heat transfer and efforts to develop a comprehensive theory. This article presents an exhaustive review of these studies and suggests a direction for future developments. The review and suggestions could be useful because the literature in this area is spread over a wide range of disciplines, including heat transfer, material science, physics, chemical engineering and synthetic chemistry.

Heat Transfer in Nanofluids—A Review

:The importance of ventilation system is being emphasized by interest of indoor air quality. Especially, heat recovery ventilation system has attracted attention as most effective ventilation plan. Because it can reduce hazardous construction materials, indoor air pollutions, and also can reduce air conditioning energy cost. In heat recovery ventilator, the element core is the most important part. The element core is composed of liner and spacer. And liner and spacer are stacked alternately. On the Liner, heat and humidity transfer are made between supply and exhaust air. And spacer plays a role as a tunnel of exhaust and supply. In this study, we investigated and analyzed the efficiency of a heat recovery ventilator, when the spacer’s properties are changed. A Study on The Performance of a Heat Recovery Ventilator According to the Properties of Spacers

The present study has been conducted economic analysis through actual operation of electric heat pump (EHP) and gas engine driven heat pump (GHP) which are installed at the same building in the university. Cost items, such as initial cost, annual energy cost and maintenance cost of each system are considered to analyze life cycle cost (LCC) and economical efficiencies are compared. The initial cost is considered on the basis of actual cost, and annual energy cost is converted into the cost after measuring electricity and gas consumption a day LCC applied present value method is used to assess economical profit of both of them. Variables used to LCC analysis are electricity cost escalation rate, natural gas cost escalation rate, interest rate, and service lives when each of them are 4%, 2%, 8%, and 20 years. The result shows that EHP (148,257,306 won) is more profitable than GHP (161,239,296 won) by 8.05% (12,981,990 won).

Economic Analysis of Heat Pump System through Actual Operation

Electret filter media are used in general ventilation filters, disposable respirators, vehicle cabin filters, vacuum cleaners and room air cleaners. There are basic mechanisms of interception, inertial impaction, diffusion, gravitational settling, electrostatic attraction by which an aerosol particle can be deposited onto a fiber in a filter. The ability of fine particle removal strongly depends on the electrostatic forces between particles and polarized fibers. Thus, the stability of the fiber polarization is a major factor in the reliability of electret filters. In this study, the electret filter is made by electrospinning process using Polystyrene which is dissolved by 5 : 5 of Tetrahydrofuran (THF) and Dimethylformamide (DMF). Also the electrical properties and the filtration performances of electrospun filter media are Quantitatively investigated. Electrical properties of electrospun filters have been studied on surface charge potential and surface charge density. Also the filtration performance of the electret filters are evaluated on collection efficiency. The surface charge potential and the surface charge density of electrospun PS filters are increased with increasing applied voltage and saturated at 30 kV of applied voltage. Also collection efficiency of electro spun filters is increased with increasing surface charge potential and surface charge density. But the surface charge potential is decreased by natural decay and it causes deterioration of particle collection efficiency.

Characteristic Analysis of Electret Filters made by Electrospinning

The thermal performance for test system with evacuated tubular solar collector is experimentally investigated to obtain the basis data for developing new type solar collector. For this purpose, the test system was designed using CATIA and then after being manufactured, the system was tested using evacuated tubular solar collector. Numerical analysis, furthermore, was performed using ANSYS Fluent V.13 for glass evacuated tubular solar collector. The results showed that as setting temperature difference( T) of system was increased, total operating(working) time was almost same in all cases, even though operating count was decreased. The results of numerical analysis showed that as temperature of solar absorber in glass evacuated tubular solar collector was high, the drop-rate of temperature of center part was increased.
