TL;DR: In this article, an apparatus and method for determining the viscosity of a fluid over plural shear rates caused by a decreasing pressure differential by monitoring the movement of the fluid through a riser tube and a capillary tube is described.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for determining the viscosity of a fluid over plural shear rates caused by a decreasing pressure differential by monitoring the movement of the fluid through a riser tube and a capillary tube. The movement can be monitored by detecting the changing weight of the fluid, using a precision balance or load cell, as it moves through the riser tube and capillary tube into a fluid collector; or, alternatively, the movement can be monitored by detecting the changing level of a fluid column in the riser tube using a column level detector. A processor then uses the changing weight or height data, along with the dimensions of the capillary tube and a dimension of the riser tube, to determine the viscosity of the fluid. In addition, apparatus and methods for determining fluid viscosity online and fluid mixture homogeneity online are also described.

TL;DR: In this article, a regenerative type of refrigeration system recirculates a mixture of R-134a, R-32 and R-125 through first and second series condensers.
Abstract: A regenerative type of refrigeration system recirculates a mixture of R-134a, R-32 and R-125 through first and second series condensers. In order to increase the concentration of the high-boiling point R-134a, the liquid output of a liquid-vapor separator receives a super-heated mixture vapor tapped from the output of the compressor. An adjustable valve controls the amount of the super heated mixture vapor which is injected to vary the concentration of R-134a in the recirculation line. Liquified R-134a passes through a secondary expansion valve and a secondary evaporator, reducing to an intermediate pressure, and enters a vortex tube, thus bypassing the main evaporator. Subsequently, the suction pressure of the compressor increases, increasing the EER of the refrigeration system. The recirculating concept is also applicable to a single refrigerant system.

TL;DR: In this article, a column monitor is provided that uses multiple interrogation sources and a single detector to continuously monitor both columns of fluid substantially simultaneously, and the system includes a Y-connector to form two flow paths and each flow path includes a tube that includes a riser tube, a capillary tube of predetermined dimensions and a valve in each for controlling the fluid flow in each path.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for measuring the viscosity of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids over a range of shear rates, especially low shear rates, by monitoring two rising columns of fluid (Newtonian or non-Newtonian) that pass through respective capillaries having different lengths. Furthermore, a specialized column monitor is provided that uses multiple interrogation sources (e.g., lasers) and a single detector (e.g., a charge-coupled device (CCD) array) to continuously monitor both columns of fluid substantially simultaneously. In particular, the system includes a Y-connector to form two flow paths and wherein each flow path includes a tube that includes a riser tube, a capillary tube of predetermined dimensions and a valve in each for controlling the fluid flow in each path. The specialized column monitor monitors the movement of the fluid columns in each of the riser tubes and an associated microprocessor analyzes these movements, along with the predetermined dimensions of the capillary tubes and riser tubes to determine the viscosity of the fluid.

TL;DR: In this paper, a vortex generator restores the optimum operating condition in the refrigeration system with insufficient refrigerant charge or using an inverter compressor, thus yielding less than the maximum EER (energy efficiency ratio).
Abstract: The performance of a refrigeration system is often reduced due to insufficient refrigerant charge or due to the use of an inverter compressor. The performance loss is associated with the operating condition, which is not at the optimum, thus yielding less than the maximum EER (energy efficiency ratio). A vortex generator restores the optimum operating condition in the refrigeration system with insufficient refrigerant charge or using an inverter compressor.

TL;DR: Compared to baseline, smokers in the maintenance phase had greater exposure to posters, provider advice and booklet, and better outcomes on seven of eight smoking cessation measures, including quitting, which were larger for clinics with prior experience implementing It's Time.
Abstract: Objectives. As phase 3 of a study to evaluate a smoking cessation program in public health practice, the authors assess the maintenance and impact of the It's Time smoking cessation program in seven public maternal and child health clinics in Chicago.Methods.The authors interviewed 404 clinic patients in the study's baseline phase (prior to introduction of the It's Time intervention program), and 610 in the program maintenance phase (in the year after experimental evaluation had ended) to assess exposure to smoking cessation interventions offered at the clinic, and smoking cessation outcomes (quit, actions toward quitting, scores on action, motivation, readiness, and confidence scales). The authors controlled for clustering of smokers within clinics, smokers' characteristics prior to clinic visit, and type of clinic service. They compared outcomes by study group (control or intervention) to which each clinic had been assigned in the earlier experimental phase.Results.Compared to baseline, smokers in the ma...

Abstract: A drying structure and process has a wet or damp mass to be dried in a container. Hot dry gas is fed into the container to flow over and/or through the mass to be dried, and the vapor-containing gas which is produced by contact with the mass is discharged from the container to the input of a vortex tube. The vortex tube separates the humid vapor into a liquid which may be discharged, and a dried gas which is recirculated back to the container for further drying of the mass.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for increasing the efficiency of a vapor compression freezing cycle and a high efficiency freezing system by making use of one or more of vortex tubes was proposed, which can be further improved by providing the vortex tube across the evaporator.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for increasing the efficiency of a vapor compression freezing cycle and a high efficiency freezing system by making use of one or more of vortex tubes. SOLUTION: In a vapor compression freezing system, a vortex tube converts a refrigerant in a saturated vapor state to a refrigerant partly in a liquid state. Efficiency of the freezing system can be increased by providing the vortex tube on a front end of an evaporator. The efficiency of the freezing system can be further increased by providing the vortex tube at a position separated by about 1/4 of an entire condenser from an inlet of the condenser. Further, performance of the freezing system can be further improved by providing the vortex tube across the evaporator.
