An overview of alginates as flame-retardant materials: Pyrolysis behaviors, flame retardancy, and applications.

The present study reports for the first time the fabrication of stable smart coatings on AZ31 Mg alloy based on the decoration of layered double hydroxide (LDHs) film by soft protein molecules functionalized by n-type semiconductor nanoparticles. For this goal, the LDHs film fabricated on the plasma electrolysis film of Mg alloy was immersed in a solution containing WO3 nanoparticles functionalized albumin, and the results were compared with the process in which LDH film was immersed in a homogenous solution of albumin. The deposition of ALB modified by WO3 nanoparticles altered the typical morphology of LDH film, forming a nest-like structure that gives rise to potential barrier formation at the interface which hinders ease of charge transport across the layer. Per electrochemical assessments in a 3.5 wt % NaCl solution, it was proposed that albumin modified by WO3 nanoparticles would cut off the electrons-supplying path at the surface of LDH film and transports them to the outside of the primer. Hence, it is assumed that the LDH-ALB-WO3 composite may effectively capture the corrosive ions during the corrosion. The remarkable improvement of the anticorrosion property of this film was connected with the increase in barrier to diffusion, prevention of charge transport by the WO3 nanoparticles modified albumin as well as the very large surface area available for the liberation of dopant due to the flake structure of LDH film. The electrochemical mechanism underlying the high corrosion resistance of the LDH-ALB-WO3 film was also revealed by Mott-Schottky (MS) analysis.

Corrosion inhibitors encapsulation in various nano-carriers is one of the best strategies for the construction of composite polymeric coatings with promising self-healing potency against harsh corrosive environments. In the present study, for the first time, a novel corrosion inhibitor nano-carrier was constructed by encapsulating the complex organic-inorganic inhibitors based on zinc acetylacetonate (ZnA) inside beta-cyclodextrin (β-CD). The smart anti-corrosion potency of the designed inclusion complex system was thoroughly explored in detail, applying complementary experimental (electrochemical and morphological) and electronic/atomic-scale computational investigations. The synthesized particles were examined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, and ultraviolet spectroscopy (UV–Vis). The thermal stability of the constructed nano-carriers was studied by the thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) technique, and the β-CD-ZnA sample showed about 11% remained weight (at 550 °C) higher than the unloaded β-CD, indicating the successful ZnA encapsulation in the interior cavity of the β-CD particles. The electrochemical measurement outcomes revealed that the β-CD-ZnA inclusion complex could inhibit metal corrosion with mixed anodic/cathodic protection mechanisms. The field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) micrographs proved the significant corrosion inhibition potency of the β-CD-ZnA inclusion complex toward the steel corrosion in NaCl solution. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) Results ensured that the incorporation of the β-CD-ZnA particles into a hybrid silane matrix caused significant coating corrosion resistance improvement (about 30 kΩ cm2). The atomic-scale Monte Carlo connected with molecular dynamics simulations, supported the adsorption of β-CD-ZnA inclusion over the metallic adsorbent.

Beta-cyclodextrin-zinc acetylacetonate (β-CD@ZnA) inclusion complex formation as a sustainable/smart nanocarrier of corrosion inhibitors for a water-based siliconized composite film: Integrated experimental analysis and fundamental computational electronic/atomic-scale simulation

Methacrylic acid, acetonitrile, dimethylsulfoxide and 1,4 dioxane intercalated Mg–Al layered double hydroxide (LDH) was made by the use of coprecipitation and the chelation techniques. The elimination of strontium, nitrate, and borate in polluted solution was scrutinized. The adsorption of Sr2+, NO3−, and B4O72− on methacrylate intercalated Mg–Al LDH (methacrylic acid (MAA)-Mg-Al LDH) proved that the adsorption process was spontaneous and increased randomness in the system. The equipped LDHs were performed by HNMR, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravemitric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering (DLS). It was established that different monomer types could intercalate inside an interlayer of the Mg–Al LDH. Methacrylic acid-intercalated Mg–Al LDH can effectively adsorb strontium, nitrate, and borate in aqueous solutions more effectively than other prepared LDHs. The dependability of the (MAA)-Mg-Al LDH was premeditated by iterating consecutive adsorption/desorption cycle.
