OBJECTIVE To establish an indirect immunofluorescent test so as to improve the sensitivity and specificity of examination of antibodies to beta(2)-glycoprotein METHODS Full-length beta(2)GP cDNA was obtained from human hepatocellular cancer cell line HepG2 by RT-PCR and cloned into the mammalian expression vector pEGFP-C1 The recombinant plasmid pEGFP-beta(2)GP was transfected into HEp-2 cells RT-PCR, immunoblotting (IBT), confocal fluorescence microscopy, and indirect immunofluorescent test (IIF) were used to confirm the expression, localization, and antigenicity of fusion protein of green fluorescent protein (GFP) Serum specimens from 19 patients suspected as with secondary antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), 1 patient diagnosed as with primary APS, and 10 normal persons were detected with IIF-IgG-beta(2)GP1, ELISA-IgG-ACL, and ELISA-IgG-beta(2)GP I simultaneously RESULTS (1) The HEp-beta(2)GP I cells thus obtained retained their ability of expression of beta(2)GP-I-GFP for more than ten generations This beta(2)GP-I-GFP showed the antigenicity of beta(2)GP-I with a characteristic feature (2) Seven of the 20 serum specimens from APS patients showed characteristic immunofluorescent pattern No serum specimen from normal persons showed immunofluorescent staining The comparison of results of the three methods showed that the concordance between IIF-IgG-beta(2)GP I and ELISA-IgG-beta(2)GP I was the most perfect (Kappa = 0886) (3) HEp-beta(2)GP I retained the immunofluorescent property of HEp-2 cell CONCLUSION As a new kind of substrate of IIF, beta(2)GP I transfectant can be used to detect anti-beta(2)GP-I antibodies Transfeted HEp-2 cells keep the immunofluorescent property of HEp-2 cells in IFANA test and can be used as substrate for routine IFANA detection

Borate glasses are the technologically important class of glasses and play a significant role in various applications. Borate glasses contain planar BO3 groups as structural units, rather than tetrahedral SiO4 groups. The oxygen atoms are, as in SiO2, again connected to two network-forming atoms, in case of boron. The radial distribution analysis describes the B2O3 glass structure as consisting of boroxol rings, that is, planar rings containing three boron atoms and three oxygen atoms. The network forming of the B2O3 and the SiO4 is affected with the addition of some metal cation additives Pb, Zn, Cd, and so forth. These additives also work as a network modifier and a nucleating agent for crystallization of glass. Therefore, the optical properties of the borate glasses have been changed significantly.

Structural features of γ‐phase Bi2O3 and its place in the sillenite family

The vibrational spectra of crystals of bismuth borates Bi24B2O39, Bi4B2O9, BiBO3, and Bi2B8O15 were obtained for the first time, and the spectra of Bi3B5O12 and BiB3O6 crystals measured in the range 30–1600 cm−1 at room temperature were refined. The lines observed were assigned to the corresponding vibrational transitions on the basis of the theoretical group analysis and comparison of the obtained results with the vibrational spectra of borates of different composition. The complication of the structure of bismuth borates with increasing content of B2O3 was traced by the example of vibrational spectra.

Vibrational spectra of crystals of bismuth borates

Tb2Sn2O7 has been prepared by solid-state reaction in air at 1473 K over a period of 200 h and its isobaric heat capacity has been studied experimentally in the range 350–1073 K. The Cp(T) data for this compound have no extrema and are well represented by the classic Maier–Kelley equation. The experimental Cp(T) data have been used to evaluate the thermodynamic properties of terbium stannate (pyrochlore structure): enthalpy increment H°(T)–H°(350 K), entropy change S°(T)–S°(350 K), and reduced Gibbs energy Ф°(Т).

High-temperature heat capacity and thermodynamic properties of Tb 2 Sn 2 O 7

Experimental data are presented and available published information is generalized on phase relations in the Bi2O3-TiO2 system. The phase diagrams in stable equilibrium and metastable states are constructed. The homogeneity range of the phase with a sillenite Bi12TiO20 structure is refined, and so is the temperature range of the existence of the metastable and equilibrium states of the phase with a pyrochlore Bi2Ti2O7 structure.

Phase relations in the Bi2O3-TiO2 system

The main processes for preparing bulk single crystals and films of photorefractive and piezoelectric Bi 12 M x O 20 ± δ (M = Group II-VIII elements) sillenite compounds are considered. Experimental data are sum- marized on the crystal growth of Bi 12 M x O 20 ± δ from the melt and under hydrothermal conditions, and the key morphological features of sillenites are analyzed. Various types of macroscopic growth defects in sillenite-type crystals are described, and their origin is discussed. The compositions of second-phase inclusions in undoped and doped (Group I-VIII elements) Bi 12 SiO 20 , Bi 12 GeO 20 , and Bi 12 TiO 20 single crystals are presented, and the main physicochemical properties of various Bi 12 M x O 20 ± δ crystals are summarized.
