Disruption of EARLY LESION LEAF 1, encoding a cytochrome P450 monooxygenase, induces ROS accumulation and cell death in rice

TL;DR: This work identified a rice LMM, early lesion leaf 1 (ell1), cloned the causal gene by map-based cloning, and verified this by complementation, revealing that ELL1 affects chloroplast development or function, and that loss of E LL1 function induces ROS accumulation and lesion formation in rice.
Journal ArticleDOI

FZP determines grain size and sterile lemma fate in rice.

TL;DR: This study revealed that FZP functions in grain size and sterile lemma identity, and supported the hypothesis that the lemma, rudimentary glume, and sterilised lemma are homologous organs.
Journal ArticleDOI

FON4 prevents the multi-floret spikelet in rice.

TL;DR: The spikelet is the specific unit of the grass inflorescence, and produces a variable number of florets depending on whether the species displays determinate or indeterminate growth; for example, in wheat inflorescences with the ind determinate spikelet, the spikelet meristem is continuously active and producing a plethora of lateral floral meristems, leading to the formation of variable numbers of floretts.
Journal ArticleDOI

ABNORMAL FLOWER AND GRAIN 1 encodes OsMADS6 and determines palea identity and affects rice grain yield and quality

TL;DR: It is revealed that AFG1 plays an important role in determining palea identity and affecting grain yield and quality in rice and may affect grain size by regulating the expression levels of several genes related to cell expansion and proliferation in the afg1 mutant.
