Formation of a novel hybrid-vector spatial plasmon-soliton in a Kerr slab embedded in-between metal plates is predicted and analyzed with a modified NLSE, encompassing hybrid vector field characteristics Assisted by the transverse plasmonic effect, the self trapping dimension of the plasmon-soliton was substantially compressed (compared to the dielectrically cladded slab case) when reducing the slab width The practical limitation of the Plasmon-soliton size reduction is determined by available nonlinear materials and metal loss For the extreme reported values of nonlinear index change, we predict soliton with a cross section of 300nm x 30nm (average dimension of 100nm)

Plasmon-Soliton

In this paper, the exact analytical Laguerre–Gaussian (LG) solutions are derived in strongly nonlocal nonlinear media in a cylindrical coordinate system. The comparisons of analytical solutions with numerical simulations of the nonlocal nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NNLSE) show that the analytical LG solutions are in good agreement with the numerical simulations in the case of strong nonlocality. The Gaussian breather and the Gaussian soliton, ring vortex breathers and solitons, necklace-type breathers and solitons can be obtained by treating them as special cases of LG breathers and LG solitons. The area of the dark region across the LG vortex ring breathers and vortex ring solitons can easily be controlled by proper choice of the beam parameters.

Propagation of Laguerre?Gaussian beams in nonlocal nonlinear media

Based on the Snyder-Mitchell model in the Cartesian coordinate system, exact analytical Hermite-Gaussian (HG) solutions are obtained in strongly nonlocal nonlinear media. The comparisons of analytical solutions with numerical simulations of the nonlocal nonlinear Schrodinger equation show that the analytical HG solutions are in good agreement with the numerical simulations in the case of strong nonlocality. Furthermore, we demonstrate that HG functions can be expressed as a linear superposition of individual Gaussian functions with a π phase difference under the appropriate conditions.

Hermite-Gaussian breathers and solitons in strongly nonlocal nonlinear media

Scalar and vector nonlinear nonparaxial evolution equations are developed for propagation in two-dimensions Using standard soliton scalings, it is found that nonparaxial propagation is accompanied by higher-order linear and nonlinear terms and an effective quintic nonlinear index The presence of an intrinsic quintic nonlinearity arising from χ(5) must also be considered at the order of the analysis These terms represent corrections to the well-known nonlinear Schrodinger equation Exact and approximate solutions to these higher-order evolution equations are obtained and are shown to exhibit quasi-soliton behavior based on propagation and collision studies

Nonparaxial one-dimensional spatial solitons.

A general dark-soliton solution of the Helmholtz equation (with defocusing Kerr nonlinearity) that has on- and off-axis, gray and black, paraxial and Helmholtz solitons as particular solutions, is reported. Modifications to soliton transverse velocity, width, phase period, and existence conditions are derived and explained in geometrical terms. Simulations verify analytical predictions and also demonstrate spontaneous formation of Helmholtz solitons and transparency of their interactions.

Helmholtz dark solitons.

Gamma-ray-irradiated light-flint silicate bulk glass (Schott Glass LF5), which contains a large amount of lead oxide, displays enhanced photoinduced quasi-phase-matched second-harmonic generation (PSHG), whereas nonirradiated glass under the same experimental conditions does not generate this nonlinear effect. The dependence of the efficiency of PSHG on the amount of gamma radiation (up to 530 krad) is experimentally studied, as is the role of thermal recovery (bleaching) of the color centers as a result of seeding with the second harmonic. The effect of long-term fading is studied with a sample that was irradiated 8 years ago. Gamma irradiation of boron-crown silicate glass (BK7) does not show this enhancement.

Gamma-ray-irradiated lead-silicate glass shows enhanced photoinduced quasi-phase-matched second-harmonic generation This is due to the formation of color centers, which serve as traps for space charge, resulting in an internal dc field due to the coherent photovoltaic effect The color center formation also enhances the χ(3) nonlinearity, which contributes to the photoinduced quasi-phase-matched second-harmonic generation as well We separate these two contributions and show their respective roles
