Journal ArticleDOI

Production of citrinin-free Monascus pigments by submerged culture at low pH

TL;DR: This is the first report about the production of citrinin-free Monascus pigments at extremely low pH and an ideal nitrogen source can be selected to control the final pH and then thecitrinin biosynthesis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Controlling composition and color characteristics of Monascus pigments by pH and nitrogen sources in submerged fermentation.

TL;DR: The results revealed that the Monascus pigments dominated by different color components (yellow pigments, orange pigments or red pigments) could be selectively produced through pH control and nitrogen source selection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of green synthesized silver nanoparticles from Psidium guajava L. leaf aqueous extracts.

TL;DR: The present study revealed that the low-cost and environmentally friendly synthesis of P-AgNPs can be widely used in biomedicine, water treatment or purification, and nanobiotechnology.
Journal ArticleDOI

Improving free, conjugated, and bound phenolic fractions in fermented oats (Avena sativa L.) with Monascus anka and their antioxidant activity

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of fermentation with Monascus anka on the phenolic components and antioxidant activities of oats were investigated, and it was revealed that the fermentation process significantly increased total phenolic content, especially free phenolic contents, and the dominate phenolic compositions of free, conjugated and bound phenolic fractions from oats varied with fermentation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Enhanced butanol production by coculture of Clostridium beijerinckii and Clostridium tyrobutyricum

TL;DR: Two-strain coculture significantly enhanced butanol production, yield and volumetric productivity compared with those in pure culture with or without butyric acid, suggesting that this continuous coculture mode may be suitable for industrial ABE production with no need for repeated sterilization and inoculation.
