Software Defined Networking Technology (SDN) provides a prospect to effectively detect and monitor network security problems ascribing to the emergence of the programmable features. Recently, Machine Learning (ML) approaches have been implemented in the SDN-based Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS) to protect computer networks and to overcome network security issues. A stream of advanced machine learning approaches – the deep learning technology (DL) commences to emerge in the SDN context. In this survey, we reviewed various recent works on machine learning (ML) methods that leverage SDN to implement NIDS. More specifically, we evaluated the techniques of deep learning in developing SDN-based NIDS. In the meantime, in this survey, we covered tools that can be used to develop NIDS models in SDN environment. This survey is concluded with a discussion of ongoing challenges in implementing NIDS using ML/DL and future works.

Survey on SDN based network intrusion detection system using machine learning approaches

Artificial intelligence (AI) technology holds both great promise to transform mental healthcare and potential pitfalls. This article provides an overview of AI and current applications in healthcare, a review of recent original research on AI specific to mental health, and a discussion of how AI can supplement clinical practice while considering its current limitations, areas needing additional research, and ethical implications regarding AI technology. We reviewed 28 studies of AI and mental health that used electronic health records (EHRs), mood rating scales, brain imaging data, novel monitoring systems (e.g., smartphone, video), and social media platforms to predict, classify, or subgroup mental health illnesses including depression, schizophrenia or other psychiatric illnesses, and suicide ideation and attempts. Collectively, these studies revealed high accuracies and provided excellent examples of AI’s potential in mental healthcare, but most should be considered early proof-of-concept works demonstrating the potential of using machine learning (ML) algorithms to address mental health questions, and which types of algorithms yield the best performance. As AI techniques continue to be refined and improved, it will be possible to help mental health practitioners re-define mental illnesses more objectively than currently done in the DSM-5, identify these illnesses at an earlier or prodromal stage when interventions may be more effective, and personalize treatments based on an individual’s unique characteristics. However, caution is necessary in order to avoid over-interpreting preliminary results, and more work is required to bridge the gap between AI in mental health research and clinical care.

Artificial Intelligence for Mental Health and Mental Illnesses: an Overview.

As a cornerstone service for many Internet of Things applications, channel state information (CSI)-based activity recognition has received immense attention over recent years. However, recognition performance of general approaches might significantly decrease when applying the trained model to the left-out user whose CSI data are not used for model training. To overcome this challenge, we propose a semi-supervised generative adversarial network (GAN) for CSI-based activity recognition (CsiGAN). Based on the general semi-supervised GANs, we mainly design three components for CsiGAN to meet the scenarios that unlabeled data from left-out users are very limited and enhance recognition performance: 1) we introduce a new complement generator, which can use limited unlabeled data to produce diverse fake samples for training a robust discriminator; 2) for the discriminator, we change the number of probability outputs from $k+1$ into $2k+1$ (here, $k$ is the number of categories), which can help to obtain the correct decision boundary for each category; and 3) based on the introduced generator, we propose a manifold regularization, which can stabilize the learning process. The experiments suggest that CsiGAN attains significant gains compared to the state-of-the-art methods.

A comprehensive survey and taxonomy of the SVM-based intrusion detection systems

The leading approaches in Machine Learning are notoriously data-hungry Unfortunately, many application domains do not have access to big data because acquiring data involves a process that is expensive or time-consuming This has triggered a serious debate in both the industrial and academic communities calling for more data-efficient models that harness the power of artificial learners while achieving good results with less training data and in particular less human supervision In light of this debate, this work investigates the issue of algorithms’ data hungriness First, it surveys the issue from different perspectives Then, it presents a comprehensive review of existing data-efficient methods and systematizes them into four categories Specifically, the survey covers solution strategies that handle data-efficiency by (i) using non-supervised algorithms that are, by nature, more data-efficient, by (ii) creating artificially more data, by (iii) transferring knowledge from rich-data domains into poor-data domains, or by (iv) altering data-hungry algorithms to reduce their dependency upon the amount of samples, in a way they can perform well in small samples regime Each strategy is extensively reviewed and discussed In addition, the emphasis is put on how the four strategies interplay with each other in order to motivate exploration of more robust and data-efficient algorithms Finally, the survey delineates the limitations, discusses research challenges, and suggests future opportunities to advance the research on data-efficiency in machine learning

A survey on data‐efficient algorithms in big data era

Support vector machine (SVM) is a machine learning method based on statistical learning theory. It has a lot of advantages, such as solid theoretical foundation, global optimization, the sparsity of the solution, nonlinear and generalization. The standard form of SVM only applies to supervised learning. Large amount of data generated in real life is unlabeled, and the standard form of SVM cannot make good use of these data to improve its learning ability. However, semi-supervised support vector machine (S3VM) is a good solution to this problem. This paper reviews the recent progress in semi-supervised support vector machine. First, the basic theory of S3VM is expounded and discussed in detail; then, the mainstream model of S3VM is presented, including transductive support vector machine, Laplacian support vector machine, S3VM training via the label mean, S3VM based on cluster kernel; finally, we give the conclusions and look ahead to the research on S3VM.
