The effect of some oligo-amines and -guanidines on membrane permeability in higher plants

A molecular survey concerning the origin of Cyperus esculentus (Cyperaceae, Poales): two sides of the same coin (weed vs. crop)

A glasshouse experiment was conducted to examine how the interactions of nutrient availability and partial ramet clipping affect growth, reproduction and biomass allocation of Cyperus esculentus, an invasive sedge The plants sprouting from tubers were grown at low and high nutrient levels, and were subject either to no clipping, one, two or three clippings, with each clipping cutting half of the existing ramets at soil level Our results show that nutrient availability and clipping frequency tended to independently affect most of growth, reproduction and biomass allocation parameters of Cyperus esculentus examined in the present study Increased supply of nutrients led to an increase in plant productivity and its associated traits All of the traits, except for the number of ramets, displayed a decreasing pattern with increasing clipping frequency, indicating that Cyperus esculentus had undercompensatory responses to ramet clipping It is likely that the patterns of plants’ response to clipping are species specific, and depend on morphological characters of species Its susceptibility to ramet clipping can offer opportunities for controlling this invasive species through mechanical methods such as mowing Clipping had little effects on biomass allocation; however, root weight fraction increased with increasing clipping frequency While nutrient availability and clipping frequency had no influence on leaf carbon concentration at harvest, both of them increased leaf nitrogen concentration, and hence reduced leaf C/N ratio

Effects of ramet clipping and nutrient availability on growth and biomass allocation of yellow nutsedge

tubers and early growth of their sprouts. Percent sprouting increased with increasing temperature within the range of 12 to 38 C, while no sprouting occurred at 10 C and few tubers sprouted at 42 C. The rate of sprouting also increased with temperature up to 35 C. A base temperature of 11.4 C was determined for bud-sprouting of tubers in this species. Higher temperatures led to larger sprouts and greater survival rate. In particular, increased temperature favored root growth, and hence resulted in high root: shoot ratio of the sprouts. Larger tubers produced larger sprouts as a consequence of mobilizing a greater amount of their reserves, but they tended to utilize a smaller proportion of their reserves. The efficiency of reserve utilization significantly differed among the incubation temperatures, and its relation with temperature followed a quadratic pattern. This pattern is different from that documented for the bud-sprouting of rhizomes and stolons of other perennials. Our results demonstrate that temperature is crucial to the successful establishment of C. esculentus.

Effects of temperature on bud-sprouting and early growth of Cyperus esculentus in the dark.

Nous avons etudie le developpement, la phenologie, la demographie et la diversite genetique de Cyperus esculentus (souchet comestible), espece perenne clonale invasive des cultures basses de Haute Lande, dans le sud-ouest francais, afin de comprendre sa capacite colonisatrice et ainsi elaborer des propositions de gestion dans le cadre d'un systeme de lutte integree. La capacite colonisatrice de C. esculentus dans les cultures de Haute Lande resulte (1) d'un developpement vegetatif important du systeme souterrain de l'espece, associant exploration du milieu grâce aux rhizomes et multiplication grâce aux tubercules, les seuls organes qui permettent le passage de la mauvaise saison, (2) des pratiques culturales locales qui repondent a l'ensemble des besoins de l'espece en eau (irrigation), en luminosite (cultures basses, de faible stature) et en l'absence d'especes competitrices (gestion efficace des autres adventices). Les analyses genetiques ont montre la faible diversite genetique et la structuration spatiale des populations echantillonnees. Nous avons pu mettre en evidence des phenomenes d'introductions multiples a partir d'une unique source, ainsi qu'une dispersion intra-regionale liee aux activites anthropiques de type agricole. Dans le contexte d'une gestion de l'espece, la faible diversite genetique de C. esculentus permet de supposer une reponse homogene aux techniques de lutte envisagees et les modes de dispersion identifies indiquent la necessite d'une prophylaxie renforcee. Les analyses phenologiques et demographiques realisees en terrain nu et sous couvert vegetal et a differentes dates de levee ont permis de mettre en evidence la sensibilite de l'espece a la competition, surtout pour la lumiere, et a un retard de levee : la production finale de tubercules est fortement reduite comparativement a une levee printaniere classique en milieu ouvert. Cependant, en raison notamment des modifications de patrons d'allocation des ressources lorsque la levee est retardee, la tuberisation n'est jamais completement eliminee par l'une ou l'autre de ces techniques et reste suffisante pour assurer le maintien sinon l'expansion de l'infestation. L'ensemble des connaissances acquises au cours de ce travail nous a permis (1) de proposer un indicateur de developpement afin de declencher les interventions avant l'initiation de la tuberisation et (2) de modeliser le cycle de developpement de C. esculentus afin de prevoir l'impact des itineraires techniques a envisager pour lutter efficacement contre l'espece.

Yellow Nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus) の個生態に関する研究

ナプロアニリドによる水稲と広葉, カヤツリグサ科雑草間の選択殺草作用, および実用的使用場面を考慮した試験で水稲およびウリカワの吸収性の差について検討した. 出芽前処理におけるナプロアニリドによる水稲のED50は, ホタルイ, ウリカワに比べおのおの約130倍および380倍高かった. 出芽後処理において, ナプロアニリドはホタルイ, ウリカワ, タマガヤツリ, コナギおよびキカシグサに対して15g/a a. i. でほぼ90%の阻害を示し, 3g/a a. i. では完全に枯死した. これに対して水稲では60g/a a. i. までもほとんど抑制作用は見られなかった. 14C-ナプロアニリドは, 水稲よりウリカワで2倍吸収された. 化合物の吸収は, 水稲では茎基部と根部により吸収するが, 上部への移行は著しく制限された. ウリカワでは茎葉, 塊茎および根部に化合物が一様に分布した.

Herbicidal and phytotoxic activities of fifty-three 2-naphthyl carbamates against barnyardgrass (Echinochloa oryzicola Vasing.) and rice (Oryza sativa L.) were evaluated under paddy field conditions to clarify the relationships between chemical structure and the activity.Points clarified for the most suitable structure on herbicidal activity against barnyardgrass were as follows:1) N-Alkyl-N-phenyl was preferable for amino moiety in carbamate skeleton of 2-naphthyl carbamates.2) Among four types of carbamates of 2-naphthyl N-methyl-N-phenyl derivatives, thionotype thiocarbamates (O-2-naphthyl derivatives) showed the highest activity, and the next active was carbamates. Thiol-type thiocarbamates (S-2-naphthyl derivatives) and dithiocarbamates exhibited no activity.3) Of the N-alkyl group in O-2-naphthyl N-alkyl-N-phenylthiocarbamates, only methyl group showed the activity.4) With regard to substituents on the N-phenyl ring in O-2-naphthyl N-methyl-N-phenylthiocarbamates, there was a tendency that the activities of N-(meta-substituted phenyl) derivatives were higher than those of ortho- or para-substituents. For substituents on N-phenyl ring, hydrogen atom (=unsubstituted), methoxy and fluorine atom showed high activity.5) When N-(2-pyridyl) group was introduced into O-2-naphthyl thiocarbamates, the activities of most compounds were weak and lower than those of corresponding N-phenyl derivatives. But O-2-naphthyl N-(6-methoxy-2-pyridyl)-N-methylthiocarbamate exhibited much higher activity than corresponding N-(3-methoxy-phenyl) thiocarbamate.6) The activities of four types of carbamates having N-(6-methoxy-2-pyridyl)-N-methyl group were also examined. Thiono-type thiocarbamate showed the highest activity in a similar manner as N-phenyl derivatives.Among the tested carbamates, O-2-naphthyl N-(6-methoxy-2-pyridyl)-N-methylthiocarbamate showed the highest activity.

3-phenoxypyridazine 誘導体のオーキシン阻害力を Raphaus test B 法 (細胞分裂力測定), Raphanus test A 変法 (細胞伸長力測定) および Avena straight growth test により測定した。供試3化合物は, いずれも強力なオーキシン阻害作用を示した。また, オーキシン過剰によるダイコンの生長阻害は低濃度の 3-phenoxypyridazine 誘導体により回復し, 逆に 3-phenoxypyridazine 誘導体によるダイコンの生長阻害は低濃度のオーキシン活性物質により回復が可能である。しかし, 両者の高濃度の組合わせにより, 生長阻害は増大する。また, 頂芽優勢打破現象もみられることから, 本系列化合物はオーキシンと密接な関係にあることがうかがわれる。このようなオーキシン阻害作用, 頂芽優勢の喪失現象は, MHについて CURRIER, JONSON, LEOPOLD & KLEINらにより報告されている。また, 2,4-D, 2,3,6-TBAは carbamate 系の barban の作用を阻害することを PFEIFFER らが明かにしており, KEITTはオーキシン誘起のタバコの細胞伸長がIPC, CIPCにより阻害されるとし, C. S. JAMES らは, 2,4-D, dicamba あるいは picloram は, CIPC, EPTC, barban などの carbamate によりダイズの下胚軸の伸長, 屈曲が阻害されることを報告している。さらに PRENDEVILL らは, 2,4-D, 2,4,5-Tあるいは dicamba と carbamate 系のEPTC, CDECの組合わせが Sorghum, giant foxtail には拮抗的であり, 2,4-D+Alanap でも同様であることを報告している。3-phenoxypyridazine 系化合物は, MHと比較すると, その選択性はイネ科植物に強力な阻害作用を示す点で類似するが, 広葉植物に対してMHはほぼ非選択的であるのに対し, 3-phenoxypyridazine 系化合物は科によって阻害程度か異なり, 特にMHがトマトに大きな被害を与えるのに対し, 3-phenoxypyridazine 類は全く無害であり, 選択性に大きな相違がみられる。また本系列化合物は, コハク酸脱水素酵素の活性を1,000ppmでやや抑制する程度であり, 同様に呼吸阻害も割合少なく, これらはMHのそれと全く逆の生理作用である。MHのオーキシン阻害作用について CURRIER & LEOPOLD は bean plant の上胚軸を用い, オーキシンの移行がMHにより阻害されるためだとしている。ANDREAE らはMHはIAAの酵素分解を促進するとした。また, C. S. JAMESは2,4-D処理によるアオビユ, サナエタデの屈曲反応がCIPCで阻害される現象をラジオアクティブの両剤を用いてCIPCによる移行阻害, 分解などによるものでないことを明らかにしている。以上のように, オーキシン阻害作用は現象的には類似しているが, 作用機作は異なっている。3-phenoxypyridazine 系化合物のオーキシン阻害作用の生理的, 組織的解明は現在研究中であり, いずれ他の機会に報告する。

3-Phenoxypyridazine 系化合物のオーキシン阻害作用

NSK-850の湛水土壌処理における除草作用特性をガラス室内ポット試験および圃場試験により検定し, 除草効果の変動要因として重要である土壌中の残効性および移動性を室内モデル試験により調査した。その結果, NSK-850は圃場条件においても3g/aの薬量で移植水稲の生育を阻害せずにウリカワやオモダカなどの多年生雑草を除く多くの一年生水田雑草に対して高い除草効果を示し, イヌホタルイやミズガヤツリに対しても強力な抑制作用を示した。また, タイヌビエに対しては特効的に作用し, 出芽前から2葉期までの処理適期を有し, 生育期の処理においては深水条件が効果発現に有効であることが判明した。NSK-850の土壌中での残効性は高温条件で短く, 圃場施用量比の薬量で比較するとプレチラクロールとほぼ同等かあるいは若干短く, 土壌中での移動性は粘土含量や有機物含量の多い土壌で小さく, 同一薬量ではプレチラクロールより小さいことが明らかになった。以上の通り, NSK-850は移植水稲栽培におけるタイヌビエ防除剤あるいは混合母剤としての適用が期待される。
