TL;DR: Addition of GM3 to the soybean phospholipids used for reconstitution of proteoliposomes markedly increased ATP hydrolysis as well as Ca2- uptake activity of sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+‐ATPase incorporated into the proteolIPosomes.

TL;DR: A patient with a congenital auricular deformity consisting of cleft concha transposition of the earlobe and antitragus is reported, which is an extremely rare entity.
Abstract: We have reported a patient with a congenital auricular deformity consisting of cleft concha transposition of the earlobe and antitragus. This is an extremely rare entity. We have named it congenital auricular deformity consisting of cleft concha and transposition of the earlobe and antitragus because the case we described is a congenital cleft auricle and transposition of the earlobe and antitragus in terms of position of the deformity.

TL;DR: An anatomical study undertaken involving the macroscopic dissection and histological examination of the noses of 11 caucasian cadavers shows that these areas consist of irregularly arranged connective tissue which fails to meet the histological criteria of a ligament or membrane.
Abstract: There is confusion in the current literature regarding the exact nature of the attachments of the medial crura of the lobular cartilage. There have been suggestions that these may be ligamentous, i...

TL;DR: It is suggested that lipid peroxidation and perturbance of Ca2+ homeostasis appear to contribute to the hepatotoxicity of CBD, and vitamin E might prevent the liver damage induced by CBD.

TL;DR: It has become clear that the hepatocyte proliferation and protooncogenes are linked closely and can express specifically as markers in the different phases of the cell cycle and in hepatocytes that enter the cell cycles and continue to progress.
Abstract: There are many humoral factors involved in the control of growth in regenerating liver. The complete hepatocyte mitogens such as hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), hepatic stimulator substance (HSS) can strongly stimulate hepatocyte DNA synthesis and mitosis. The hepatocyte growth inhibitors such as transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF beta 1), however, do not stimulate DNA synthesis, but inhibit EGF mitogenesis. In addition, the comitogens such as norepinephrine and insulin are necessary to regulate the growth of regenerating liver. It has become clear that the hepatocyte proliferation and protooncogenes are linked closely. Some protooncogenes can express specifically as markers in the different phases of the cell cycle and in hepatocytes that enter the cell cycle (G0 to G1 transit) and continue to progress.

TL;DR: By using DNA electrophoresis and propidium iodide (PI) staining flow cytometry (FACS) analysis, Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper studied the mechanisms of lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cell-mediated cytotoxicity.
Abstract: By using DNA electrophoresis and propidium iodide (PI) staining flow cytometry (FACS) analysis, we studied the mechanisms of lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cell-mediated cytotoxicity. In the presence of pokeweed mitogen (PWM), human LAK cells induced DNA fragmentation of two leukemic cell lines (U937 cells and Raji cells) and two solid tumor cell lines (SW1116 cells and Hep-2 cells), a hallmark of apoptosis. The reactions were carried out at the effector/target ratio of 1∶1 in 4 h co-culture. Pretreatment with RNA and protein synthesis inhibitors (actinomycin D and cyclohexamide) did not prevent the target cells from apoptosis. As the TNF-resistant tumor cell lines such as SW1116 cells and Raji cells were also triggered to apoptosis, other factors than TNF may play the role. DNA-PI staining FACS analysis also suggested that a part of LAK cells underwent apoptosis to some extent during incubation with target cells. The results provide a new way to investigate the mechanisms of the cytotoxicity of LAK cells, and a new possibility to enhance the efficiency of adoptive tumor therapy with LAK cells.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the peak of PDA is within 8 weeks after operation, and PCMC, as a three dimensional protective material, could effectively inhibit PDFA after laminectomy, but GF and L could not.
Abstract: An experimental study on the effectiveness of various materials including poly carboxymethylcellulose (PCMC), gelatin foam (GF), ligment (L), free fat (FF) in prevention of peridural fibrosis and adhension (PDA) was done in 144 SD rats using a total laminectomy model (L1-2). PDA was measured with a double-blind protocol at 2, 4, 8, 12 weeks postoperatively by gross anatomical appearance (blunt-dissection), microscopical evaluation, computed imaging analysis and MRI enhanced with gadolinium. The results demonstrated that the peak of PDA is within 8 weeks after operation. PCMC, as a three dimensional protective material, could effectively inhibit PDFA after laminectomy, but GF and L could not. SHA had some effect in the early stage, but not in the late period. For FF though it could effectively prevent PDA, the incision infection rate was higher, the atrophy and necrosis of FF were serious. What is more, almost all transplanted fat remained in situ extended into the spinal cord in some measure after 8 weeks postoperatively.

TL;DR: Analyis of bile showed that JSS could increase the amount of biliary acid, decrease the bilirubin, mucous and bicarbonate radical in bile, and were better in those with treatment course > 6 months.
Abstract: In order to evaluate the role and mechanism of Jinshisan (JSS) in bile stone dissolution, 164 cases of extra-/intrahepatic biliary stone patients were treated by a collaborated group, the therapeutic effect was observed by B-ultrasonography before and after treatment. Results showed,(1)Among the 164 cases, 26 cases (15. 85%) were cured clinically: 73(44. 51%) were effective and 65 (39.63%) ineffective.(2) After treatment, in 84 patients of right hepatolith, the stone were diappeared in 10 cases, the size or number of stone decreased in 44 casess. In 34 patients with left hepatolith, the figure were 5 and 13 respectively. In 10 cases of choledocholith they were 10 and 10 respectively. While in 21 cases of multiple gallstone, only one case with stones of both sides disappeared, except 3 ineffective cases, others with stone decreased in size or number or disappeared unilaterally. (3) Gallston diappeared in 7 of 10 patients with size of stone ≤ 5 mm, only 2 of them were ineffective.(4) The effect were better in those with treatment course > 6 months. (5) Analyis of bile showed that JSS could increase the amount of bile acid, decrease the bilirubin, mucous and bicarbonate radical in bile.

TL;DR: Results indicated that activated C-erbB-2, N-ras and altered p53 genes may have a role in human HCC pathogenesis through promiting the development of HCC from hepatic cirrhosis and the progression of H CC.
Abstract: To assess the relationship between C- erb B-2, p53, N- ras slams at a premalignant stage and in HCC, the authors studied the imunohistological expression of these genes in IlCC, liver cirrhosis and in the adjacent normal resected liver tissue, using monoclonal antibody to mutated p53 and activated C- erb B-2, N- ras . C- erb B-2 was expressed in 97.1% (35136) of HCC and 100% (18118) of hepatic cirrhosis, low level C- erb B-2 expression was observed in 2/14 (14.3%) of normal liver specimens; The positive incidence of overexpression of mutant p53 protein in HCC and hepatic cirrhosis were 55.6% (20/36) and 66.7% (10/18) respectively; 29 (76.5%) specimens of HCC and 16 (88.9%) of hepatic cirrhosis were positive for N- ras protein. The overexpression of the three oncogene proteins were significantly higher than that of normal liver tissues (P<0.01). These results indicated that activated C- erb B-2, N- ras and altered p53 genes may have a role in human HCC pathogenesis through promiting the development of HCC from hepatic cirrhosis and the progression of HCC.
