TL;DR: The varicella-zoster virus genome was detected in three of the four samples from patients with acute retinal necrosis, and among these three positive samples, two had PstI-site-less point mutation, strains that have been described only in Japan and of low prevalence.

TL;DR: Graft survival for recipients of kidneys from LUDs is similar to that from zero haplotype-matched LRDs and is at least as good as that achieved with cadaveric transplants.
Abstract: ▪Objective:To compare patient and graft survival of recipients of kidneys from living, unrelated donors (LUDs); cadaveric donors; and living, related donors (LRDs) matched for zero (mismat...

TL;DR: A combination of abeta agonist and ipratropium bromide (FB) was more effective than a beta agonist alone (F) in reducing wheezing and dyspnea during an acute attack.
Abstract: Two treatment regimens for the initial treatment of acute wheezing were evaluated in 61 wheezing infants. Thirty-one patients received fenoterol (F) (0.1 mg/kg) and placebo (P) and 30 patients received fenoterol (F) (0.1 mg/kg) plus a fixed dose of ipratropium bromide (IB) (50 μg). Both groups received the drugs by inhalation using an ultrasonic nebulizer and face mask. A clinical score system based on wheezing and rib cage retraction was established and evaluations were performed before and at 15, 30, and 45 minutes after treatment. After the last evaluation based on the clinical score, it was decided whether to repeat or not to repeat the treatment. Our results showed that a combination of a beta agonist and ipratropium bromide (FB) was more effective than a beta agonist alone (F) in reducing wheezing and dyspnea during an acute attack (63.4 versus 25.8%; p < 0.05).

TL;DR: The results suggest that although neuroleptic drugs to inhibit Ehrlich ascites tumors, this effect does not seem to be related to changes in dopaminergic neuronal transmission.
Abstract: We determined the effect of 13 days of treatment with 2.0 mg/kg haloperidol, 4.0 mg/kg bromocriptine or 2.0 mg/kg amphetamine on the number of tumor cells of mice bearing Ehrlich ascites carcinoma. The dopaminergic blocker significantly reduced the number of tumor cells of experimental mice, but the two dopamine-mimetic drugs used did not significantly affect tumor development. These results suggest that although neuroleptic drugs to inhibit Ehrlich ascites tumors, this effect does not seem to be related to changes in dopaminergic neuronal transmission.

TL;DR: Dystrophin immunohistochemistry in addition to CK, EMG and muscle biopsy improved the accuracy of carrier detection and is helpful to distinguish manifesting DMD carriers from patients with other neuromuscular diseases like limb-girdle muscular dystrophy and spinal muscular atrophy.
Abstract: To ascertain whether dystrophin immunohistochemistry could improve DMD/BMD carrier detection, we analyzed 14 muscle biopsies from 13 DMD and one BMD probable and possible carriers. All women were also evaluated using conventional methods, including genetic analysis, clinical and neurological evaluation, serum CK levels, EMG, and muscle biopsy. In 6 cases, there was a mosaic of dystrophin-positive and dystrophin-deficient fibers that allowed to make the diagnosis of a carrier state. Comparing dystrophin immunohistochemistry to the traditional methods, it was noted that this method is less sensitive than serum CK measurements, but is more sensitive than EMG and muscle biopsy. The use of dystrophin immunohistochemistry in addition to CK, EMG and muscle biopsy. improved the accuracy of carrier detection. This method is also helpful to distinguish manifesting DMD carriers from patients with other neuromuscular diseases like limb-girdle muscular dystrophy and spinal muscular atrophy.
