TL;DR: The result illustrates the potential real-life benefit of the real-time bus dispatching system despite the simplicity of the timetable adjustment strategy and compares the bus service qualities before and after the implementation of the real- time bus dispatches system.
Abstract: This paper aims to present and evaluate the performance of one of the first real-time bus dispatching system in Bangkok, Thailand. The proposed bus dispatching system receives the real-time bus location data from the RFID sensor network. The paper provides the background and brief description of both the hardware and architecture of the RFID sensor network and the real-time bus dispatching system. The bus dispatching system continuously monitors the status of each bus and updates its expected arrival time at the depot using the real-time data from the RFID sensor network. If the expected number of vehicles falls below the required level, then the bus dispatching system will adjust the service headway and vehicle/driver assignments to minimize the impact on the service headway. The system is implemented on one of a bus lines in Bangkok. The main focus of the paper is to evaluate the performance of the implemented system by comparing the bus service qualities before and after the implementation of the real-time bus dispatching system. One month bus service data both before and after the system deployment are used in the evaluation of the bus level of service. The result illustrates the potential real-life benefit of the real-time bus dispatching system despite the simplicity of the timetable adjustment strategy.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the views of clients in public sector on design and build (D&B) procurement method and explore their reasons of adopting D&B and refusing to adopt it.
Abstract: This paper presents the views of clients in public sector on design and build(D&B) procurement method. Specifically, their reasons of adopting D&B and refusing to adopt it were explored. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews with ten senior staff from four major public organisations in Hong Kong. The findings indicate that public clients held different views on D&B methods based on different grounds. Apart from functional requirements such as project completion time, cost certainty, etc., internal resources and political force would also influence client's adoption of D&B method in the public sector.

TL;DR: In this paper, a study on gesture production by native speakers and learners, in a formal context, of English and Spanish in a foreign language classroom was conducted. And it was observed that gestures with iconicity (those related to the content of the speech) or of a pragmatic nature (those used to emphasize or maintain the rhythm of speech) differed.
Abstract: In foreign language teaching and evaluation little, if any, consideration is given to gestures, that is, to hand movements performed together with speech. However, in recent decades various gesture production models have been suggested, models that should be considered in the foreign language classroom. Some researchers propose the existence of two more or less independent parallel processes, one for gesture, one for speech, while others suggest a unity of the two modalities, the Growth Point. This article summarises existing theories in gesture-speech processing and it illustrates it with the results of a study on gesture production by native speakers and learners, in a formal context, of English and Spanish. It was observed that, depending on the level of proficiency, gestures with iconicity (those related to the content of the speech) or of a pragmatic nature (those used to emphasize or maintain the rhythm of speech) differed. These results suggest the existence of two systems of gesture-speech processing: one where the gesture and speech are produced separately and another where they are a unit. Understanding these differences and processes can be helpful in the foreign language classroom to facilitate students’ oral production and for teachers to evaluate proficiency levels in the foreign language.

TL;DR: The learning rate for classifying parts which are produced from a machine with a varying parameter is analyzed to investigate the effect of learning rate to an unsupervised neural network when applied to an inspection process.
Abstract: In this paper, we shall investigate the effect of learning rate to an unsupervised neural network when applied to an inspection process. The network we use is the Learning by Experience (LBE)[1]. Here, we analyse the learning rate for classifying parts which are produced from a machine with a varying parameter. Experiment results using IC leadframes are included.

TL;DR: In this paper a powerful tool called sensitivity analysis in the context of knowledge engineering is discussed and subtleties related to the popular certainty factor calculus employed by most shells are highlighted.
Abstract: In this paper a powerful tool called sensitivity analysis in the context of knowledge engineering is discussed. Subtleties related to the popular certainty factor calculus employed by most shells are highlighted. With reference to practical examples, we also show how sensitivity analyses can help validate a knowledge base.
