TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared several methods of handling missing observations in discrimination and found that a simple regression technique and a modified technique based on the first principal component gave relatively high probabilities of correct classification.
Abstract: This paper compares by simulations several methods of handling missing observations in discrimination. In an earlier paper, several methods were compared in discriminating by the usual linear discriminant function between two multivariate normal populations in which all pairs of variables are equally correlated. In the present study, a variety of population matrices was used and two additional methods were introduced: the first, a simpler regression technique and the second, a modified technique based on the first principal component. The new regression technique was found to give relatively high probabilities of correct classification.

TL;DR: Survival and local control of disease appeared to be enhanced by the use of adjuvant hormonal therapy, and advancing extent of disease, locally and distally, and the presence of disease within the lymph nodes affected prognosis adversely.
Abstract: A total of 96 patients with adenocarcinoma of the prostate were irradiated with the intent to control the disease locally by two dissimilar techniques: pelvic irradiation with a prostatic boost vs pelvic and para-aortic irradiation with prostatic boost. Survival and local control of disease appeared to be enhanced by the use of adjuvant hormonal therapy. Advancing extent of disease, locally and distally, and the presence of disease within the lymph nodes affected prognosis adversely.

TL;DR: An analysis of DNA in balanced salt solution indicated that a similar DNA-metaplasia relationship exists for cervical tissues in vivo, and suggested that semiautomation of DNA quantitation of cervical irrigation specimens could form the basis of a personal screening method for cervical carcinomas.

TL;DR: It is suggested that an obstructive process proximal to either semilunar valve which converts laminar flow to turbulent flow is capable of producing a similar pattern in the leaflets during ventricular ejection.
Abstract: The abnormal pulmonary valve echocardiographic tracing in a patient with a double-chambered right ventricle is presented. Preoperatively, the posterior pulmonary valve leaflet demonstrated a partial closure in systole, followed by coarse fluttering of the leaflet. The postoperative echocardiographic tracing of the pulmonary valve was normal. It is suggested that an obstructive process proximal to either semilunar valve which converts laminar flow to turbulent flow is capable of producing a similar pattern in the leaflets during ventricular ejection.

TL;DR: The authors presented data from a Parental Attitude Scale completed by 132 parents of adolescents in crisis admitted to the Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center Factor analysis of the attitude scale delineated three bipolar factors: (1) the gratifying adolescent versus the nongratifying adolescent, (2) the nondelinquent self-controlled adolescents versus the prodelinquent impulse-ridden adolescent, and (3) the loving adolescent versus rebellious adolescent.

TL;DR: Soluble proteins isolated from tissues of the tomatoLycopersicon esculentum, after inoculation with Agrobacterium tumefaciens to induce tumours, have been examined by gel electrophoresis and cytochemically.
Abstract: Soluble proteins isolated from tissues of the tomatoLycopersicon esculentum, after inoculation withAgrobacterium tumefaciens to induce tumours, have been examined by gel electrophoresis and cytochemically. Changes that occur include the suppression of host enzymes, the appearance of bacterial enzymes in the host tissues and the appearance of new enzyme bands in the affected cells. These changes are detectable within 6 hr of infection and prior to evident morphological changes, and may be explained as derepression and repression of host genes, or the expression of released bacterial genes in the host cells.
