TL;DR: In this article, the life cycle energy balance, global warming potential and acidification potential, of a small-scale biodiesel system, in rural Karnataka, was evaluated for its environmental impacts.
Abstract: Pongamia pinnata is one of the promising tree species suitable for providing oil for biodiesel production. This paper addresses the life cycle energy balance, global warming potential and acidification potential, of a small scale biodiesel system, in rural Karnataka. In addition, the system has also been expanded to generation and use of biogas from seed cake for electricity production and evaluated for its environmental impacts. The environmental impacts have been benchmarked with the life cycle impacts of fossil diesel. The results show that non-renewable energy requirement of Pongamia biodiesel system is twenty-eight times lower than that of fossil diesel. A significant increase in global warming potential (GWP) is indicated in Pongamia biodiesel system compared to fossil diesel if wood is used as fuel. GWP would be seven times less if wood is not used as fuel. Acidification and eutrophication potential of Pongamia system was found to be nil. Further, expanding the Pongamia biodiesel system to include biogas production exploits the energy available in the system. It is also observed that one hectare of Pongamia plantation is capable of completely sequestering the CO2 released during the life cycle with additional sequestration potential up to 1 t CO2 ha -1 . Moreover, the above aspects were significantly superior in Pongamia system when

TL;DR: In this paper, a data interface circuit consisting of data sources, input blocks, a space switch, output blocks and a multi-core processor is presented, where level shifters and FIFO buffers are used in the input blocks and output blocks.
Abstract: In an illustrative embodiment, a data interface circuit is provided. The data interface circuit comprises data sources, input blocks, a space switch, output blocks and a multi-core processor. The data interface circuit allows data provided in different voltage ranges and sampling frequencies to be transmitted to the appropriate core in the multi-core processor via the switch. Data conversion elements in the input blocks convert data from the data sources and having varying voltage ranges and sampling frequencies into data having a voltage range and sampling frequency suitable for the space switch. Analogously, data conversion elements in the output blocks convert data from the space switch into data having a voltage range and sampling frequency suitable for the corresponding core in the multi-core processor. In one embodiment, level shifters and FIFO buffers are used in the input blocks and output blocks.

TL;DR: In this article, the analysis of a wire-on-tube condenser under varying operating conditions of free convection using FEM was discussed, and experimental verification of the performance of two wire-one tube condensers in a retrofitted domestic refrigerator using refrigerant R-134a.
Abstract: The present paper discusses (a) the analysis of a wire-on-tube condenser under varying operating conditions of free convection using FEM, and (b) experimental verification of the performance of two wire-on-tube condensers in a retrofitted domestic refrigerator using refrigerant R-134a. The study is motivated by the desire to investigate if the wire-on-tube condensers used in R-12 based refrigerators could be used in a modified refrigerator using R-134a refrigerant. Experiments were conducted in a climate chamber under controlled and varying ambient temperatures and mass flow rates to determine the locations where phase change occurs and the degree of subcooling achieved. In terms of initial and final phase change point locations the predicted results agree with the experimental results to within ±10%. The analysis and the experiments also lead to the information about the adequacy of the number of tubes for complete condensation of the refrigerant vapour under given operating conditions. The methodology can be used as a design tool for the design of wire-on-tube condenser of a small refrigerator as well as the suitability of specific decommissioned condensers for use in a retrofitted refrigerator. It also indicates that R-12 based refrigerators using wire-on-tube condensers retrofitted with R-134a compressor and refrigerant deserve and warrant further studies for adoption.

TL;DR: The effect of variation in senor node density, communication duration and data transmission rate on network performance in terms of Packet Delivery Ratio, throughput, average network delay and energy consumed is studied and analyzed.
Abstract: Constant monitoring of patient's health is essential to provide appropriate healthcare. With advances in electronic circuit miniaturization and micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), wearable sensor nodes can be used to acquire physiological signals from patient's body and transmit them to a remote location which can be accessed by the doctors. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are becoming an integral part of healthcare systems, as they can overcome the need for patients to be stationary while their vital parameters are being checked. In this paper we have studied and analyzed the effect of variation in senor node density, communication duration and data transmission rate on network performance in terms of Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR), throughput, average network delay and energy consumed. Simulations are carried out using ns2.34. Obtained network performance is analyzed in comparison with the required performance of various physiological signals used for patient health monitoring. Accomplished results provide direction to choose appropriate node density, data transmission rate and communication duration for required performance while establishing Zigbee sensor based patient monitoring system in practical.
