Abstract: This study compares traditional and nontraditional training techniques with regard to computer related training. Its purpose was to determine which training methods could best be utilized in computer related training to maximize a trainee's retention of material and transfer of learning. A field experiment was conducted using two hundred members of active duty U.S. Naval Construction Battalion as subjects. Evaluation of trainees included a pre-training screening, post-training evaluation immediately after training, and a follow-up session four weeks after the post-training session utilizing previously validated instruments. Training treatments included instruction lecture, exploration independent study, and a nontraditional technique---behavior modeling an enhanced combination of the other two methods. Performance outcomes were operationalized using hands-on task performance and comprehension of the computer system as dependent variables. End-user satisfaction with the computer system was also measured. Two covariates, cognitive ability and system use, were also introduced into the study. The use of hands-on training methods, especially behavior modeling, resulted in superior retention of knowledge, transfer of learning, and end-user satisfaction. Cognitive ability failed to be a good predictor of trainee success but a connection was established between training methodology, system use, and end-user satisfaction.

TL;DR: In this paper, an analysis of author productivity in The Accounting Review for the period 1967 through 1993 is presented, which indicates that the process of elite formation at TAR is more consistent with the use of particularistic rather than universal criteria.
Abstract: This paper presents an analysis of author productivity in The Accounting Review for the period 1967 through 1993. The stratification observed in other disciplines is evident and is associated with a set of “elite” schools. The most productive authors in TAR are dominated by graduates of these schools. It is also the case that these elite authors increasingly rely on other social science disciplines, notably financial economics and cognitive psychology, for producing accounting knowledge. Evidence is also provided which indicates that the process of elite formation at TAR is more consistent with the use of particularistic rather than universal criteria. There is a paradigm consensus in the U.S. academic community, which is contrary to what would be expected in a low-paradigm consensus field like accounting. The possible contribution of the AAA in forcing this consensus is discussed.

TL;DR: The authors assesses the advantages of multicultural team learning in communication competency and suggests that course instructors with high-performance goals should organize and select study teams with members comprising of a cultural mix, educational experience and work experience, the combination of which should provide competitive advantage to attain the intended goals.
Abstract: Analyses the need to prepare business students in the art of multicultural communication as we approach the millennium Assesses four research areas: language codes; learning of roles and norms; affective speech development and applied communication Of the four, applied communication appears to be the most suitable and useful for most business courses It suggests that course instructors with high‐performance goals should organize and select study teams with members comprising of a cultural mix, educational experience and work experience, the combination of which should provide competitive advantage to attain the intended goals Rationalizes the up and down sides of team learning in some detail Finally, assesses the advantages of multicultural team learning in communication competency

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors test the widely held proposition that investor sentiment contributed to the stock market crash of 1987 using weekly data during the 1986-8 period and conventional measures of stock fundamentals, finding that changes in fundamentals had a statistically significant influence on the movement of stock prices.
Abstract: This paper tests the widely held proposition that investor sentiment contributed to the stock market crash of 1987 Using weekly data during the 1986–8 period and conventional measures of stock fundamentals, changes in fundamentals are found to have a statistically significant influence on the movement of stock prices In addition, a much-discussed measure of investor sentiment is used to test the proposition that investor sentiment contributed to the stock market crash of 1987 However, insignificant results regarding the investor sentiment index suggest that either the recently proposed sentiment index is faulty or investor sentiment did not significantly influence stock prices in the period surrounding the 1987 crash

TL;DR: In this article, two streams of research have considered the competition among alternative versions of a new product and the strategic significance of dominant designs, focusing on the design dimension of compatibility standards and the diversity of product concepts and technological approaches that often exists among competing alternatives.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed a quantity setting model of firm behavior that captures the twofold effects of a dumping margin between market periods, and found that a margin of dumping that recurs is relatively easy to find under uncertain enforcement.
Abstract: The author develops a quantity setting model of firm behavior that captures the twofold effects of a dumping margin between market periods. The dumping margin determines the probability of getting charged with dumping and the size of the fine imposed, if caught. Both the probability of being charged with dumping and the size of the fine associated with dumping are endogenized. Profits are inter-temporally linked. The solution concept is the pure strategy Markov Perfect Equilibrium. The results are appealing: a margin of dumping that recurs is relatively easy to find under uncertain enforcement. The author finds reason to believe that the current anti-dumping legal structure is not likely to cause either an end to dumping or price equalization.
