TL;DR: In this paper, a system for driving a semiconductor laser which is adapted for use with an optical recording and reproducing device is described, where a laser light power control loop is provided which is enabled or energized only in the readout or reproduction mode, so that the laser light can be maintained at a predetermined level.
Abstract: A system for driving a semiconductor laser which is especially adapted for use with an optical recording and reproducing device is disclosed. In the write mode the power of laser light emitted from the semiconductor laser is so raised above a threshold or critical level that the laser beam focused on the surface of a recording medium can cause physical, chemical or electromagnetical changes thereof, but in the readout or reproduction mode, the power of laser light is lowered than the threshold or critical level and focused on the recording medium. A laser light power control loop is provided which is enabled or energized only in the readout or reproduction mode, so that the laser light can be maintained at a predetermined level. On the other hand, this control loop is disabled in the write or recording mode so that a predetermined value of current is superposed on the readout current sampled and held immediately before the write or recording mode is initiated and the current thus superposed flows into the semiconductor laser, whereby the power of laser light can be rapidly raised from the readout or reproducing laser light power to the write or recording laser light power.

Abstract: A coaxial dielectric resonator for VHF-UHF band comprises a generally cylindrical dielectric body having a thick portion, a thin portion and a stepped portion interposed between the thick and thin portion. The outer and inner surfaces of the dielectric body are respectively covered by outer and inner conductors. Thus the resonator can be regarded as a series circuit of two lines having different impedance from each other. The axial length of the thick and thin portions may be changed so as to change electrical characteristics. With the provision of thick and thin dielectric portions, the spurious resonance frequencies may be set to values other than integral multiples of the fundamental resonance frequency. The stepped portion may be rounded or replaced with a tapered portion so that impedance gradually changes at the stepped or tapered portion from the thick portion to the thin portion or vice versa.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a method for bank selection within an address range by supplying an address which enables a bank select decoding latch and a data code for selecting the desired bank, whereupon the bank will be latched and enabled for use in later normal addressing operation.
Abstract: A computer system has an addressing capability many times greater than the number of address which can be generated by its binary address lines through the use of a plurality of addressable banks (14, 16, 18, 22, 30, 34) (memory, addressable peripherals or addressable system controls) in each of a plurality of different ranges, (II, III, IV) with several different banks in each of said plural address ranges being useable in combination for any given mode of operation or program. Bank selection within an address range is effected within program control by first supplying (1) an address which enables a bank select decoding latch (28), and (2) a data code for selecting the desired bank, whereupon the bank will be latched and enabled for use in a later normal addressing operation. ROM banks (14, 16, 18), implemented in monolithic circuit form, are selected by decoder latch outputs (D2, D1, D0) which cause the bank (40) to be energized from a non-energized state, thereby eliminating (1) the need for a separate chip-select terminal, and (2) standby power consumption. Addressable peripheral equipment and system controls (30, 34) (non-ROM hardware) are mapped in an address range (III) containing ROM banks. Writing to this address range automatically goes to the non-ROM hardware since the ROM banks are incapable of receiving data. Reading from the non-ROM hardware is effected by preselecting non-ROM hardware through the use of specific data codes.

Abstract: A disclosed method of continuous making flexible printed circuits for use in radio set or the like appliances, includes punching holes in a continuous copper-film clad insulating substrate, forming photopolymer films on the faces of the copper films exposing the photopolymer film to photochemical light of a predetermined pattern, developing the exposed photopolymer film, etching the copper film utilizing remaining parts of the photopolymer film as etching masks, removing the remaining photopolymer films 40 and printing solder-resist films on selected parts. The improvement is to provide and retain selected oblong parts of said conductor metal film disposed on and parallel to longitudinal direction of the continuous substrate by, for example, covering these parts by etching-resist films. The retained oblong parts of the metal film serve to prevent shrinkage of the substrate during the conduct of further manufacturing steps thereby assuring registration of the patterns of the printed circuits and the printed solder-resist films.

TL;DR: In this paper, both polycrystalline films with c-axis orientation and single-crystal films on sapphire are treated in view of their application to surface-acoustic-wave (SAW) devices.
Abstract: Fabrication processes of piezoelectric ZnO films utilizing sputtering deposition technique and properties of the sputtered films are described mainly in view of their application to surface-acoustic-wave (SAW) devices. Both polycrystalline films with c-axis orientation and single-crystal films on sapphire are treated in this paper. As for the polycrystalline films, it is emphasized that an improved sputtering system with a hemispherical electrode configuration provides excellent uniformity of film thickness and c-axis orientation. The single-crystal films have been successfully grown by conventional rf-sputtering and rf magnetron sputtering. The rf magnetron sputtering is found to be superior over the conventional method with respect to SAW properties of the films. Fundamental SAW properties have been measured for the films and the results are compared with theoretical predictions. Several SAW devices in a wide variety of operating frequency (30–2200 MHz) have been realized using the ZnO films. S...
