TL;DR: The CD8+ effector cells raised in the CD4 subset- deficient host were able of clear vital tissues from productive infection and to restrict asymptomatic, persistent infection to acinar glandular epithelial cells in salivary gland tissue.
Abstract: We have established a murine model system for exploring the ability of a CD4 subset-deficient host to cope with cytomegalovirus infection, and reported three findings. First, an antiviral response of the CD8 subset of T lymphocytes could be not only initiated but also maintained for a long period of time despite a continued absence of the CD4 subset, whereas the production of antiviral antibody proved strictly dependent upon help provided by the CD4 subset. Second, no function in the defense against infection could be ascribed as yet to CD4-CD8- T lymphocytes, which were seen to accumulate to a new subset as a result of depletion of the CD4 subset. This newly arising subset did not substitute for CD4+ T lymphocytes in providing help to B lymphocytes, and was also not effective in controlling the spread of virus in host tissues. As long as a function of these cells in the generation and maintenance of a CD8 subset-mediated response is not disproved, caution is indicated with concern to an autonomy of the CD8 subset. Third, even though with delay, the CD8+ effector cells raised in the CD4 subset-deficient host were able of clear vital tissues from productive infection and to restrict asymptomatic, persistent infection to acinar glandular epithelial cells in salivary gland tissue.

TL;DR: In this paper, a theoretical investigation of nuclear excitation during an electron transition (NEET) was made, which allows the authors to express the NEET probabilities in terms of the excited nuclear level width, the energy difference between the nuclear and electron transition, the Coulomb interaction between the initial electron states, and the electron level width.

TL;DR: Epidemiologic study of Huntington's disease in the Rijeka district represents the first research of its kind carried out in Yugoslavia and involved ten families with a total number of 24 HD patients, most of them members from the second or third familial generation.

TL;DR: In this article, the two-photon fluorescence excitation spectrum and polarization ratio of chrysene have been measured in the spectral region 370-230 nm and totally symmetric electronic transitions have been observed which provide direct evidence of Ag ππ* states in the near UV.

TL;DR: The angular correlation of photons emitted in double internal bremsstrahlung (DIB) associated with the electron capture (EC) decay of 55 Fe has been investigated in this article.
Abstract: The angular correlation of photons emitted in double internal bremsstrahlung (DIB) associated with the electron capture (EC) decay of 55 Fe has been investigated. Relative emission angles ranged from 50° to 150°. Photons from the 1 mCi source were detected in two 5 cm × 5 cm diameter NaI(Tl) counters; the sum energies of photons was in the range of 68–231 keV. Experimental results were compared with the theoretical predictions for 1s, 2s, 2p and 3p initial electron state contributions.

TL;DR: Efforts were made to obtain the data on the frequency of CAD in Zagreb and Rijeka in the 7-year period 1980–1986 and the analysis showed that there were twice as many positive reactions to chromium, nickel and formaldehyde as to other allergens.
Abstract: The first attempt to carry out an epidemiological study of contact allergic dermatitis (CAD) in Croatia (Yugoslavia) was made during the 5-year period from 1980 to 1984 [14]. The data were obtained from Departments of Allergy in Zagreb and Rijeka, as well as from some other Dermatology Centres in Dubrovnik, Split, Pula, Slavonski Brod and Osijek [14]. In this period, 2280 cases of CAD were verified; of these, 1412 cases (Zagreb and Rijeka) were analysed in detail [14]. The analysis showed that there were twice as many positive reactions to chromium, nickel and formaldehyde as to other allergens. Similar epidemiological studies of CAD have already been performed in many countries [1–7, 11–14]. Efforts were made to obtain the data on the frequency of CAD in Zagreb and Rijeka in the 7-year period 1980–1986. In this period, 2020 cases of CAD were analysed. The results obtained in our studies were compared with findings of the above-mentioned studies.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for increasing tool life in hobbing (MITL-hobbing) was proposed, in which a theoretical equation is proposed for determining a K value which would enable the hob to be moved gradually along its axis in such a way that the majority of the teeth which would be exposed to approximately the same wear, thus improving utilisation of all the teeth and prolonging the tool life.
