Abstract: The paper analyzes the effect of the Great Depression on Bolivian tin mining and the role of the state in weathering the depression by managing its external debt and fiscal policy on the mining sector. It highlights the development of the large tin mines and how they faced this crisis as well as the role they took in financing the Chaco War.
