TL;DR: Leu M 1 antibody-positive cells were found in both cases of the so-called interfollicular Hodgkin's disease and not in lymphadenitis mimicking Hodgkin’s disease, proved by immunohistology.
Abstract: Two cases of so-called interfollicular Hodgkin's disease, one case lacking of all histological criteria and one case of lymphadenitis mimicking Hodgkin's disease, were identified among 76 patients with Hodgkin's disease. Case 1 and 2 rank among lymphocyte predominance type, case 3 showed mixed cellularity. They shared a progressive transformation of germinal centres which was proved by immunohistology. Leu M 1 antibody-positive cells were found in both cases of the so-called interfollicular Hodgkin's disease and not in lymphadenitis mimicking Hodgkin's disease.

TL;DR: Results indicate that an indirect correlation exists between AgNOR counts and survival rate of patients and cases with short survival were observed having significantly frequent AgNORs larger than 5 microns.
Abstract: 109 cases of breast cancer were examined in order to assess correlation between the number and size of argyrophilic nucleolar organizer regions (AgNORs) on one hand and prognosis of the disease on the other hand. Results indicate that an indirect correlation exists between AgNOR counts and survival rate of patients. Cases with short survival were observed having significantly frequent AgNORs larger than 5 microns.

TL;DR: A 35-year-old man who had been treated by hemodialysis for 15 years suffered from systemic amyloidosis, identified as a beta 2-microglobulin type according to immunohistochemistry.
Abstract: A 35-year-old man who had been treated by hemodialysis for 15 years suffered from systemic amyloidosis. It was identified as a beta 2-microglobulin type according to immunohistochemistry. Extensive amyloid deposits were found in myocardium, cartilages of intervertebral discs and in carpal tunnel ligament. Less conspicuous deposits comprised blood vessels of lungs, liver, suprarenal glands, brain, and stroma of prostate gland, testicles, kidney, often combined with calcified foci.

TL;DR: Development of a poorly differentiated eccrine carcinoma was observed in a 6-year-old woman who had been operated on many times during 20 years for some tens of classical as well as less usual forms of eccrine spiradenomas.
Abstract: Development of a poorly differentiated eccrine carcinoma was observed in a 6-year-old woman She had been operated on many times during 20 years for some tens of classical as well as less usual forms of eccrine spiradenomas, eg giant vascular spiradenomas They were mostly localized in the skin of back, thorax and neck The patient died of an extensive skin involvement and spine and liver secondaries 12 months after occurrence of the carcinoma The structure of carcinoma was trabecular and partly papillary, tumour cells had bulky nuclei and striking nucleoli There was a juxtaposition of spiradenomas with carcinoma and direct transformation of spiradenoma into carcinoma was observed Immunohistological positivity of carcinoma concerned S-100 protein, slightly CEA, focally cytokeratin 7 and 18; cytokeratin 14 was negative Ultrastructure of tumour cells showed irregular intercellular lumina with some microvilli, but structures characteristical for eccrine glandular of ductal differentiation were lacking

TL;DR: The small group of one own case and of 11 cases from the literature seems to support the idea that the tumour is aggressive, tending to early regional and remote metastases, and with shorter survival than other subtypes of epidermoid carcinoma.
Abstract: Another case of a very rare type of carcinoma is presented which was introduced recently as occurring in hypopharynx, larynx and tongue. Macroscopical description of an exophytic tumour of aryepiglottic fold and piriform recess in a 41-year old man is the second one in literature. Main histological feature of the tumour is a biphasic cellular structure with closely related basaloid and squamous components. Immunohistochemical expression of the squamous component concerned carcinoembryonic antigen, whereas S-100 protein, desmin and neuron specific granules. The small group of one own case and of 11 cases from the literature seems to support the idea that the tumour is aggressive, tending to early regional and remote metastases, and with shorter survival than other subtypes of epidermoid carcinoma.

TL;DR: Cervical carcinoma in a 49-year-old woman was resected and found to spread into parametrium and only a small cell carcinoma without any heterogeneity was found in autopsy.
Abstract: Cervical carcinoma in a 49-year-old woman was resected and found to spread into parametrium. It consisted of a unique combination of adenoid cystic, squamous and small cell neuroendocrine structures. Small celled part revealed positivity with chromogranin A and neuron-specific enolase, neuroendocrine granules were argyrophilic and about 130 nm in diameter. Adenoid cystic and squamous parts were lacking of unambiguous neuroendocrine or myoepithelial differentiation. The patient died in 27 months due to generalization but only a small cell carcinoma without any heterogeneity was found in autopsy. Small cell and adenoid cystic carcinomas are rare and more malignant than usual cervical carcinomas.

TL;DR: Unusual sort of breast carcinoma metastases to the liver, combined with pseudolobular transformation, was found in an autopsy of 68-year-old female after complete oncological treatment.
Abstract: Unusual sort of breast carcinoma metastases to the liver, combined with pseudolobular transformation, was found in an autopsy of 68-year-old female after complete oncological treatment. Nodes of parenchyma in abundant connective tissue nearly consisted of tumour cells. Terminology and pathogenesis were discussed.

TL;DR: All the analysed nuclear features are lacking in sufficient prediction value for distinction of benign and malignant follicular tumours of the thyroid.
Abstract: Histologic sections of 11 benign and 11 malignant follicular tumours of the thyroid were compared from the point of view of subsequent practising cytologic diagnosis. Following features were analysed in 100 randomly chosen thyreocytic nuclei: maximal nuclear diameter, nucleolar organizer rates (AgNOR) inside and outside the nucleoli, total AgNOR according to a modified Crocker s et al. method, total nucleolar rate and maximal nucleolar diameter, proportion of maximal nucleolar diameter and maximal nuclear diameter, AgNOR in vicinal nontumorous thyreocytes. All of them except total AgNOR did not show any significant differences according to modified t-test. But the increase of total AgNOR in follicular carcinomas lost its significance in Duncan's test of variance analysis because of a high maximal nucleolar diameter regarding big figures in 4 carcinomas (2 of them oxyphilic celled). In most tumours AgNOR inside nucleoli could not be reliably distinguished and quantified even after shortening of silver impregnation. Mean maximal nuclear diameter bigger than 7 nm, indicating malignant follicular lesion according to literature, could not be verified in 8 tumours- it was smaller in 5 carcinomas and bigger in 3 benign tumours. Proportion of maximal nucleolar diameter and maximal nuclear diameter was stable in benign and malignant tumours as well as the AgNOR in peritumorous thyreocytes. All the analysed nuclear features are lacking in sufficient prediction value for distinction of benign and malignant follicular tumours of the thyroid.

TL;DR: In a group of 10 secondary ovarian adenocarcinomas primary tumours were verified by biopsy in colorectal region, once in gall bladder and once in appendix, a metastasis that was alike borderline ovarian mucinous cystadenoma was found.
Abstract: In a group of 10 secondary ovarian adenocarcinomas primary tumours were verified by biopsy in colorectal region (8 cases), once in gall bladder and once in appendix. The age of patients varied between 36 up to 60 years. The lesion was unilateral in 8 cases, bilateral in two. Six colorectal adenocarcinoma secondaries reminded a bit of endometroid carcinoma. Two colorectal and a gall bladder carcinoma secondaries resembled ovarian mucinous cystadenocarcinoma. Signet ring cells were not present. Appendical mucinous cystadenocarcinoma produced a metastasis that was alike borderline ovarian mucinous cystadenoma. Intracellular mucin reaction was negative or focally positive in former 6 cases, a diffuse positivity was found in 4 cases.

TL;DR: Six cases of primary extranodal lymphomas in big salivary glands, which met criteria of MALT lymphoma, were investigated with the aid of antibodies against Ig, light chains, LCA and EMA and with antibodies KL-1 and VCHL-1.
Abstract: Six cases of primary extranodal lymphomas in big salivary glands, which met criteria of MALT lymphoma, were investigated with the aid of antibodies against Ig, light chains, LCA and EMA, in addition in two cases against Ig heavy chains and with antibodies KL-1 and VCHL-1. All the tumours had centrocytoid morphological features, one of them showed signs of focal blastic transformation into centrocytoid centroblastoma. Tumour cells showed twice plasmacytic and three times plasmacytoid differentiation with intracytoplasmic Ig monoclonality (once IgM/kappa, once IgA/kappa, three times kappa positivity). They were positive in reaction against epimyoepithelial proliferation. A picture of myoepithelial sialoadenitis with partial lymphomatous infiltration prevailed in two cases and a lymphoma picture with remnants of sialoadenitis in three cases. Features of inflammatory process were lacking in a case with blastic transformation. There is a dispute whether features of sialoadenitis belong to the defining criteria of MALT type lymphoma or can disappear during blastic transformation of a low grade malignant lymphoma.

TL;DR: Lipomatosis with multiple adenolipomas combined with amyloidosis of lobules as well of adenomas in one bioptic case was discussed and pathogenesis of this unusual phenomenon was discussed.
Abstract: Adipose tissue in the thyroid gland was observed in 7 biopsies and 2 autopsies: in 3 cases of solitary adenolipoma, 3 cases of multiple adenolipoma, 1 case of pure lipomatosis and 2 cases of lipomatosis with multiple adenolipomas combined with amyloidosis of lobules as well of adenomas in one bioptic case. Pathogenesis of this unusual phenomenon was discussed.

TL;DR: Apoptotic bodies could be compared with Rosenthal fibres, Civatte bodies and other apoptotic phenomena and were typical for described tumour and therefore it was recommended to classify it as "apoptotic gastrointestinal stromal tumour".
Abstract: Leiomyoma with a faint desmin positivity was identified among gastrointestinal stromal tumours. In addition to smooth muscle cells it was characterized by particular sausage-like strongly oxyphilic structures. The structures may have represented partially degraded tumour cells as well as insudative fibrinoid changes of intersititial collagen. Apoptotic bodies could be compared with Rosenthal fibres, Civatte bodies and other apoptotic phenomena. They were typical for described tumour and therefore it was recommended to classify it as "apoptotic gastrointestinal stromal tumour".

TL;DR: A 14 1/2-year old girl with menometrorrhagia followed by amenorrhea and abdominal pain had a pelvic resistance with limited mobility and has been without any relapse 2 1/ 2 years after chemotherapy and actinotherapy.
Abstract: A 14 1/2-year old girl with menometrorrhagia followed by amenorrhea and abdominal pain had a pelvic resistance with limited mobility. Histology of a left ovarian tumour showed gonadoblastoma turning to dysgerminoma and associated with choriocarcinoma (M-9073/1, M-9060/3, M-90101/3). Genuine ovarian tissue was hypoplastic on both sides. In the right ovary, there were additional thecalutein cysts. The patient's karyotype was 46 XX. She has been without any relapse 2 1/2 years after chemotherapy and actinotherapy.
