TL;DR: It is suggested that an isodine and anisodamine have protective effects on the acute lung injury induced by oleic acid.
Abstract: Objective To observe the protective effects of anisodine and anisodamine on acute lung injury induced by oleic acid in rats and their mechanisms. Methods Fifty Wistar rats were randomly divided into 5 groups:sodium chlorde group, oleic acid model group, dexamethasone treated group(intraperitoneally with 2 mg/kg dexamethasone at 30 mimutes before oleic acid injection),anisodine treated group(intraperitoneally with 2 mg/kg anisodine at 30 minutes before oleic acid injection),anisodamine treated group(intraperitoneally with 10 mg/kg anisodamine at 30 minutes before oleic acid injection). The changes in superoxide dismutase(SOD),lipid peroxidation(LPO)contents in blood and pathologic histology were observed. Results Plasma LPO levels in anisodine and anisodamine treated group were markedly decreased[LPO:(9 09±2 07)μmoI/L and (8 67±2 10)μmoI/L vs.(12 18±1 67)μmoI/L,all P 0 01]compared with oleic acid model group.Pulmonary tissue damages were diminished by pretreatment with anisodine and anisodamine. Conclusions It is suggested that anisodine and anisodamine have protective effects on the acute lung injury induced by oleic acid. TL;DR: The hypothesis that the effect of increasing myocardium perfusion of HMP may be related to improve NO metabolism is supported.
Abstract: Objective In order to examine the mechanism of heart-protectin musk pill (HMP) in increasing blood perfusion of the ischemic myocardium .Methods We studied the effect of HMP on nitric oxide (NO) metabolism of arterial wall in cholesteriol-fed rabbits .The level of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) mRNA was detected by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR). Nitric oxide synthase (NOS)activity of arterial wall and the concentration of plasma nitric oxide production (NOP) were measured in three groups (Control group (C)n=8,Hypercholesterolemia group(HC)n=8 and HMP group (SX)n=9).Results Indicate that hyperlipidemia caused decrease in eNOS mRNA levels and NOS activity (compared with C group, P 0 05) It reduced the quantity of NOP simutanuoesly (compared with C group , P 0 05) HMP can partly reverse the impairement of NO system .It had a tendency of increasing eNOS mRNA levels (compared with HC group, 0.1 P 0 05)and markedly elevated the NOS activity and the concentration of NOP (compared with HC group, P 0.05).Conclusion This observation supports the hypothesis that the effect of increasing myocardium perfusion of HMP may be related to improve NO metabolism. TL;DR: The rhubarb could improve the gastrointestinal blood perfusion in shocked rats and critically ill patients and had a good effect on gastric bleeding caused by stress ulcer.
Abstract: Objective To study the effect of rhubarb on gastrointestinal perfusion in hemorrhagic shocked rats and critical illnessMethods Animal study: SD rats were anesthetized with intraperitoneal sodium pentobarbital(50 mg/kg) The animal were bledBlood pressure reduced to 532 kPa and maintained for 120 min They were resuscitated at the end of shock by reinfusing all of the shed blood The rats were divided into four groups: normal control, shock group, therapeutic group(shocked rats were treated with rhubarb 50 mg/kg at the end of shock) and rhubarb group (normal controlled rats were treated with rhubarb) The gastrointestinal perfusion was evaluated by Laser Doppler and intramural pH (pHi)Results Animal study: Although the shocked rats were resuscitated completely, their gastrointestinal perfusion was much lower than that of control( P 001) Rhubarb could dramatically improve the gut perfusion There was significant difference between shocked rats and rhubarb treated rats( P 001) Furthermore, rhubarb also increase the gastrointestinal perfusion in normal controlled rats Chinical study: The septic patients have much lower intramural pH value (pHi) compared with control Whereas rhubarb could obviously upgrade gastrointestinal pHi( P 0001 VS pretreatment) In addition, rhubarb also had a good effect on gastric bleeding caused by stress ulcer Conclusions The rhubarb could improve the gastrointestinal blood perfusion in shocked rats and critically ill patients [

TL;DR: Using rhubarb in early stage may prevent gut-origin lung injury of rats, this protective effect may partly due to the inhibition of endogenous NO.
Abstract: Objectives To evaluate the possible role of endogenous nitric oxide (NO) in the development of lung injury after intestinal ischemia-reperfusion (IIR), and the effect of rhubarb on endogenous NO on the model of rat intestinal ischemia (45 minutes of superior mesenteric artery occlusion alone) followed by 6 hours of reperfusionMethods Adult Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups: (1) ischemia and reperfusion alone (n=24), (2) those animals receiving rhubarb 600 mg/kg 30 minutes before reperfusion (n=24), (3) those animals receiving NS instead of rhubarb,(laparotomy), serving as controls Mean artery blood pressure (MAP) was monitored Pulmonary microvascular permeability was measured using bovine serum albumin (BSA) labeled with 125 I The content of endogenous NO of plasma, small intestine and lung in different groups and in different time was measuredResults Rhubarb improved the hypotensive status which caused by IIR significantly, decreased pulmonary microvascular permeability ( P 005 or P 001) Conclusion Using rhubarb in early stage may prevent gut-origin lung injury of rats, this protective effect may partly due to the inhibition of endogenous NO [
