TL;DR: In this paper, the author studied the meaning of a single image in the earliest known version of the poem and found that it was more ambiguous and far richer than has previously been supposed.
Abstract: en la esteril regi6n de nuestros afios (Villamediana) to N the notes that follow, the sonnet "Mire los mu, ros de la patria mia" is studied in the context of Quevedo's moral thought, and in the light of some of its English translations. I hope to show that I several of its images are more ambiguous and far richer than has previously been supposed. It ?' has often been observed that this sonnet focuses the reader's attention first on large, distant entities ("muros," "patria") and then on small, immediate ones ("casa," "espada"). In analyzing the poem, I shall do the opposite. Let us begin by elucidating the meaning of a single image in the earliest known version of the poem.

(2) How do the novels portray their female characters? and (3) Why do even those novels whose titles promise female protagonists ultimately focus on other topics and characters?

TL;DR: Sobre los dngeles as discussed by the authors is one of the richest and most enigmatic texts to appear in Spain in a century remarkable for its poetic production and occupies a central position in Alberti's poetics and in the history of modern Spanish poetry.
Abstract: ?O~~ ? OBRE los dngeles is one of the richest and most enigmatic texts to appear in Spain in a century remarkable for its poetic production. It occupies a central position in Alberti's poetics and in the history of modern Spanish poetry. Yet despite its recognized importance, this book has received considerably less critical attention than the work of many of Alberti's contemporaries. Sobre los cngeles lies midway between Marinero en tierra (for which Alberti received the Premio Nacional de Poesia in 1925) and Consignas, the publication of which in 1933 confirmed him as Spain's foremost political poet. Alberti's dizzying career from "dehumanization" to political commitment in less than a decade is paradigmatic of his entire generation. Sobre los dngeles and surrealism in general play a fundamental role in that transition. The most cursory reading makes it apparent that Sobre los dngeles gives expression to some sort of crisis. Its violent imagery and at times tortuous syntax point to disruption and upheaval. Most critics who deal with Sobre los ingeles take Alberti's stunning gallery of angels as a "spiritual autobiography,"' viewing it variously as the poetic reflection of an existential, religious, or amorous crisis. These studies often rely heavily on the poet's lyrical autobiography, La arboleda perdida, to explain difficulties in the text
