TL;DR: This paper argues that LM and KM can be viewed as two sides of the same coin, and explores how Web 2.0 technologies can leverage knowledge sharing and learning and enhance individual performance whereas previous models ofLM and KM have failed.
Abstract: The main aim of Knowledge Management (KM) is to connect people to quality knowledge as well as people to people in order to peak performance. This is also the primary goal of Learning Management (LM). In fact, in the world of e-learning, it is more widely recognised that how learning content is used and distributed by learners might be more important than how it is designed. In the last few years, there has been an increasing focus on social software applications and services as a result of the rapid development of Web 2.0 concepts. In this paper, we argue that LM and KM can be viewed as two sides of the same coin, and explore how Web 2.0 technologies can leverage knowledge sharing and learning and enhance individual performance whereas previous models of LM and KM have failed, and present a social software driven approach to LM and KM.

TL;DR: The use of Web 2.0 in (e)-learning and the new skills that they enable are discussed, and the pedagogical theories that support the exploitation are debated to create personalised and collaborative learning environments.
Abstract: The great diffusion of Web 2.0 is having a tremendous effect and change on the way people search, find, collaboratively develop and consume information and knowledge. Education and learning are not an exception of Web 2.0 trends, as the number of Web 2.0 empowered e-learning environments are booming. Although research in Web 2.0 applications in learning is rising, the studies tend to be very descriptive failing to identify and discuss the pedagogical theories and models that support and enhance the exploitation of Web 2.0 tools in (e)-learning environments. This paper aims to first discuss the use of Web 2.0 in (e)-learning and the new skills that they enable, and then, debate the pedagogical theories that support the exploitation of Web 2.0 for creating personalised and collaborative learning environments. To achieve that, a socio-technical approach is suggested.

TL;DR: In this position document, the nature of Knowledge Society is commented on and a 'Roadmap' for the future discussions and contributions is developed.
Abstract: The Knowledge Society is the new context of our living and working. Towards this milestone, the International Journal of Knowledge and Learning reveals a scientific debate where academics, practitioners, researchers, policy makers, as well as government bodies, industry and nonprofit organisations provide their understanding for the integrated character of knowledge and learning. In this position document, we comment on the nature of Knowledge Society and we develop a 'Roadmap' for our future discussions and contributions.

TL;DR: A suggested model for intellectual capital management that can be of benefit to both academics and practitioners is provided and a set of research propositions are suggested to provide guidance for future research.
Abstract: Knowledge assets represent a special set of resources for a firm and as such, their management is of great importance to academics and managers. The purpose of this paper is to review the literature as it pertains to knowledge assets and provide a suggested model for intellectual capital management that can be of benefit to both academics and practitioners. In doing so, a set of research propositions are suggested to provide guidance for future research.

TL;DR: This article analyses the SW applications from a 'market' perspective, setting the key requirements for real-world information systems that are SW-enabled and discussing the major difficulties for the SW uptake that has been delayed.
Abstract: In recent years, Semantic Web (SW) research has resulted in significant outcomes. Various industries have adopted SW technologies, while the 'deep web' is still pursuing the critical transformation point, in which the majority of data found on the deep web will be exploited through SW value layers. In this article we analyse the SW applications from a 'market' perspective. We are setting the key requirements for real-world information systems that are SW-enabled and we discuss the major difficulties for the SW uptake that has been delayed. This article contributes to the literature of SW and knowledge management providing a context for discourse towards best practices on SW-based information systems.
