TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explored the idea of Milah Abraham, a term used and advocated by Ahmad Mushaddeq and Mahful Muis, the founders of Gerakan Fajar Nusantara/Archipelagic Dawn Movement.
Abstract: This article explores the idea of ‘Milah Abraham’, a term used and advocated by Ahmad Mushaddeq and Mahful Muis, the founders of Gafatar (Gerakan Fajar Nusantara/Archipelagic Dawn Movement). Mahful Muis, a prominent companion of Mushaddeq, has written many works about the idea of the religion of Abraham. This article answers the questions of how the idea of Milah Abraham emerged, and what are the implications of its emergence in the context of plural Indonesian Islam. Based on interviews and the written works of both Gafatar leaders, this study explores the idea of the religion of Abraham and how it can go beyond Judaism, Christianity and Islam to a new spirituality that combines the three religious traditions. The idea of Milah Abraham not only offers a new syncretism in the context of plural Indonesian Islam, but also challenges the establishment of Islamic orthodoxy in the country. Since the 1970s, the idea of returning to the religion of Abraham has contributed to the discussion of pluralism among many Indonesian Muslim intellectuals.

TL;DR: The former Viennese Cardinal Franz Konig and his foundation Pro Oriente have been prominent actors in the establishment of ecumenical relations between the Catholic Church and Oriental Orthodox Churches since the Second Vatican Council as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: The former Viennese Cardinal Franz Konig and his foundation Pro Oriente have been prominent actors in the establishment of ecumenical relations between the Catholic Church and Oriental Orthodox Churches since the Second Vatican Council. This article discusses the Christian-Muslim relations dimension of this ecumenical engagement with Middle Eastern churches in the practical field of ecumenical travel to Syria and Egypt. This intertwining of ecumenical and inter-religious engagement is studied on the basis of archival collections and journalistic accounts that make it possible to grasp the administrative process of ‘travelling diplomacy’. The analysis links the practical work of ecumenical relations to the historical legacies of the Western encounter with Islam in the post-Ottoman area. I shall argue that Pro Oriente’s approach was based on a new post-Vatican II theological vision of Islam. Although this did include reorientation with regard to traditional orientalist perceptions, ecumenism also be...

TL;DR: This paper examined the different versions of the letter that have come down to us from the Musnad of al-Ḥārith b. Abī Usma and from a recension from al-Ṭabarānī's Al-muʿjam al-kabīr to reconstruct a critical edition.
Abstract: The letter to al-ʿAlāʾ b. al-Ḥaḍramī embodies a number of parallels to the covenants and to the Prophet Muḥammad's correspondence with the people of Yemen. This study examines the different versions of the letter that have come down to us from the Musnad of al-Ḥārith b. Abī Usāma and from a recension from al-Ṭabarānī's Al-muʿjam al-kabīr to reconstruct a critical edition. Having translated the critical edition and analysed its contents, the study then concludes that the letter is in all likelihood authentic and that it is, generally speaking, textually accurate. The implication of this is that the letter and the covenants represent mutual attestations of one another and that the religion of Islam was well-established, having attained a great level of maturity in the Prophet's lifetime.

TL;DR: The authors applied simple programming to calculate the lexical overlap between translations and used the results in a preliminary discussion of possible influence of earlier on later translations, and compared the results with conclusions arrived at in previous research on the interrelationship between translations.
Abstract: The present article is primarily intended as a methodological contribution to Islamic Studies providing an example of how the power of computer-aided text analysis can benefit the field. The data consists of a set of 51 lexicons created out of translations of the Qur’an into English. The analysis applies simple programming to calculate the lexical overlap between translations and uses the results in a preliminary discussion of possible influence of earlier on later translations. The results are compared with conclusions arrived at in previous research on the interrelationship between translations and are also used to identify and suggest new areas for in-depth studies.
