Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: The equation given by Kovats for the calculation of the retention index in case of isothermal operation is transformed to a more general form to include also the case of linear temperature programmed operation and gives the same retention index for both ways of operation.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: A novel multidimensional technique has been elaborated and found suitable for the chromatographic identification of 52 amino acids and the relative merits of cellulose and silicagel as carriers are discussed in relation to separation efficiency, reproducibility and sensitivity of detection.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Thin-film silicic acid chromatography has been demonstrated to be a useful technique for the separation of a wide variety of partially and completely derivatized carbohydrates.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Thin-layer chromatographic procedures have been combined in two-dimensional techniques to give a separation of mixtures of the 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazones of the normal homologous series of alkan-2-ones, alk- i -en-3-ones

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: It is suggested that study of the urinary excretion of amines may provide useful clues as to the mechanisms involved in various metabolic disorders, including those characterized by mental dysfunction.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Diastereo- isomeric compounds were clearly resolved on the basis of threo or erythro configurations of glycol groups or of other stereochemical differences between such isomers.

TL;DR: Systematic separation factors may be established among various unsaturated fatty acid methyl esters analysed by gas—liquid chromatography on polyester substrates apparently dependent on differences in the magnitude of the carboxyl end chain and end carbon chain parts of the fatty acid chain.

83 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Sharp separations of microgram amounts of the lanthanide elements as trivalent ions in aqueous hydrochloric acid solution are made chromatographically using a column of diatomaceous silica made hydrophobic with dichlorodimethylsilane vapors and coated with high purity bis-(2-ethylhexyl) orthophosphoric acid (DEP).

81 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: A vapour dilution apparatus, very suitable for detector calibrations, is described which provides known relative concentrations of a vapour in a gas for sampling on a partition column.

70 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Suspensions of gel particles of agarose can be used as supporting media for electrophonesis on an analytical as well as a preparative scale for purification of low molecular weight substances, proteins, and also of subcellular particles, such as microsomes.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Sulfones were separated by gas—liquid chromatography; the best separations were obtained using Carbowax 1500 and 20-M on Gas-Chrom-Z, a silanized diatomaceous solid support.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the complexing agent di-(2-ethylhexyl) orthophosphoric acid was retained on a poly(vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate) copolymer, and this mixture was used as column material for chromatographic elution of the rare earths.

Journal ArticleDOI
P.J. Brown1, W.B. Wright1
TL;DR: Electrophoretic methods have been used to investigate the interactions in solution between coloured tea polyphenols and milk proteins and it has been found that when a tea infusion is mixed with milk in the proportions but not the overall concentration obtaining in a cup of tea with milk, the coloured teapolyphenols interact mainly with the α- casein complex and the β-casein of the milk to form soluble casein-polyphenol complexes.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: “Molecular-sieve” electrophoresis, which can be used both for analytical and small scale preparative purposes, can in some cases give separations similar to those obtained in “molecular” chromatography.

Journal ArticleDOI

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Acyclic polyhydroxy-compounds have, in general, much higher RF values in the solvent containing benzeneboronic acid than the aldoses or ketoses from which they derive, which provides a rapid method for the separation of pairs of such compounds.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: This method uses the “functional group retention ratio”, a quantitative measure of the interaction of thefunctional group in an homologous series of polar compounds with the stationary-phase liquids, to identify the functional group of the unknown compound.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: It has been found that the chromatographic resolution and the sharpness of the spots are greatly improved by the use of papers other than Whatman No. 4.

Journal ArticleDOI
